its funny, gas went up a whopping 10-15 cents a gallon from the early 80's until 2001, and from then until now it has gone up over $1.50 a gallon.

Seems to always be more in the summer, it would be that out here atleast in Northern California. San Francisco already has some 3.99 a gallon for lowest octane.

Does anyone else feel like gas is so high because the oil companies have the perfect lobbyist in washington?

I don't really know much about it but i was talking to my friend from Dubai and when he recently talked to his family back home they sad gas is gong for about 1.75 a gallon after conversion.

Venezuela has the cheapest gas, I think they're up to about 25
cents a gallon now, most of the OPEC nations are still well under a buck

You really don’t think so? So your stance is that the president has nothing to do with the increase in oil despite obvious displays like the November election decrease and such?

I like to think if we get a democrat in there who isn’t a big business oil company lobbyist than maybe we will see some lower prices. Maybe the $2 range which would be fine with me.

What kills me is the fact that oil companies have been reporting "record profits", yet they wanna say, "Oh, but we're really not making that much money.... we put it all back in to finding more efficient engery, blah blah blah...."

Riiiiiiiiiight.....

I'm ready for that corn-oil gas. I'd LOVE to pull up to the back of a fast food restaurant (since I'm already there, eating food that will probably give me heart disease, but that's another discussion) and load up a tub of grease, pay NOTHING for it (they're throwing it away ANYWAY), and use it in my car for fuel.

And I just have to say... I drive an SUV. I have a Honda CRV, and it gets damned good gas mileage. It was the only SUV I would consider owning, except a hybrid, however there were none available in the state when I was car-shopping. They were all on back-order. Next time I trade, it'll be for a hybrid SUV. I HAVE to have something to haul all of my camping gear in. Besides, I only have a 15 minute commute to work. No freeway, all backroads. A tank will last me a week.

My next car will be a vegetable oil car.

In the meantime, I will bike my brains out.
