Treehouse Afficianados? Wilderness Survivalists?

anyone here ever do any research on building treehouses. Not like little kid treehouses. Like for livin in the woods. Just curious. Been readin up on it. Im thinkin im gona be spending alot of time deep in the woods of northern california this summer and think im gona try to build me a real pimp ass treehouse with the help of a bunch of friends. Anyone here got any knowledge on the subject? Im just as well interested in learning how to make sustainable structures out of raw materials in nature. Been researching a bunch of wilderness survival over the years, however, i feel none of the information sticks unless i get out there and get hands on. Hope i can get in some time with that come soon. I was thinking this message board would even benefit with having a section for wilderness survival and such. Where we can talk about tips and tricks in the wild as im sure many of us are interested in survival skills. Just a thought

You have to pick a mature tree that won't be growing much more from the base, then you have to accomodate, you'll probably end up having some sort of supports that go from the house to the ground, beams of some sort.

sounds like a great idea. I would love to live in a treehouse.  I  would use wood you can trust (aka home depot builder's wood) get all your tools together and get to work. Engineer thats shit dawg :goodluck:

to be honest, i never thought to build a home in a tree, if it ever came down to it i would build a pit style home like some of the indians used to.

I built a fairly large tree house for my oldest kid about 10 years ago. The tree has grown since then but has simply grown around the wood that is attached to it. If anything I'd say it's stronger.

There seem to be too many unknowns when it comes to building something like that ...someone mentioned home depot wood. Have you ever tried to build anything with wood from these lumber yard places? EVERY board is freakin more twisted, curved, and a different size than the last. Not to mention it would be very expensive...and nails/screws arent very nature-friendly.

I small, simple setup can still be really cool tho, and ive seen it done quite successfully. My cousins built a treehouse WAYYYY up high like 100ft in a tree right by their house, like 4'x6', and they had like a ropes course to get down. But again...it's just sooo dangerous.

I think bees currently have moved into the treehouse, so it doesnt get much action any more.
