Straw bale growing

I remember camping one time and seeing hundreds of shrooms growing off one of those big round bails of straw in a farmers field. Every morning the dew would make them fruit again. My question is how sucessful would one bee if they were to soak one of these bails in water for a few days then inject a whole syringe into it then covered it loosely with plastic. ????

Why go through all this when you could just dig a hole in the ground, fill with manure and straw, and then innoculate with a spent cake or something?

Go through all what.
all i suggested was dunking a bale of hay in water injecting spores and covering with plastic. No cow shit no digging no making cakes. why would you go through all that if all that was needed was a bale of hay water spores and a piece of plastic. Only reason i mentioned it at all is i seen hundreds of shrooms growing straight out of hay. How important is the manure really. if it is needed then couldn't the hay just be enriched with some nutrient juice. Like homemade soup broth. does any one not see the beauty of having a cake the size of a bale of hay outdoors where contamins are not a problem.

Try it and get back to us on how it worked, but I don't think you could just spray spores into the bale of hay and expect anything meaningful.
