sorry i don't have any experience with using a spent cake to spawn the poo. I just tried my first one (a 14 x 8 x 4) and i used 2 new 1/2 pint BRF cakes to spawn. That was a week ago today and it is nearing full colinization. Id say if it shows no growth (good or bad like in contams) id wait a little longer just to see or try to add some more mycellium if you have any to help speed up the spawing time.
also what temp are you incubating at? I have read that poo doesnt need to be kept at as high of a temp as normal incubation techniques because of the heat it produces as compost i believe. in fact i saw a post that recomended a temp in the mid to high 70's for faster colinization.
Hope some of this might help a little, im still getting my feet wet so sorry thats about all i can offer! Good luck though and keep us posted!

i have read that this problem can often be attributed to over wet poo

i had a similar problem a while back. Im pretty sure it resulted from too high of a pasteurization temp. What temp did you pasteurize at? Also it?s paramount to get the right water ratio. Great way to make sure that you get the moisture content right is to let the shit drip dry over night. Once you get all the conditions rights the myc. should rip right through the shit with no problem. Good luck!

a good idea is to pasteurize poo or straw on the grill. warm your pot of water to 170 oF on the stove then bring the pot of hot water out to the grill. it also works well to remove the grill rack and place the pot directly on the grill stones or on the bottom rack above the burner;)

I agree with above. My hubby hats for me to cook poo so I use a camp stove outside. Works great and no smell. Good luck!

I love the smell of horse poo pasturizing... Smells like success.

I was cooking up some poo tonight and my son came upstairs and said whats for dinner!!! lmfaooooooooooo I almost pissed my pants....I was laughing so hard. 8 year olds say the funniest things.
I think the smell is rather Earthy.... Its smell is sorta strong when pasturizing but you can't really smell it after that point.
Kick the old lady out of the house for a few hours!!!
