Family sues friends of alcohol OD 'victim'
    #8088641 -

No link, but I am sure it is all over the news.

A young lady drank some 17 shots of hard liquor on her 21st birthday and died from alcohol poisoning. Her family is suing the bartender and her friends.

How far does the ethical and legal responsibility lie with her friends? Are they their sister's keeper?

What if they actively encouraged her to drink more and more?

You're more or less responsible for your own actions. Unless it was her first time drinking and she didn't know that well what she was getting into.

But dying from 17 shots seems a little extreme, it almost seems like she'd have to have been vitamin deficient or something to pull that off. Unless it was a big 17-shot beerbong.

It doesn't matter, the bartender or her friends or anyone else were not responsible for how much she drank. I believe that the bartender would have had legal responsibility but only for the case in which she wasn't legal of age to drink, but she just turned 21.

It's not because of alcohol, it's because of stupidity.

Yes, but it's not the drinks' fault because she died.

It was her decision to drink.
Alcohol didn't decide to move from the bottle in her blood.

When you blow a .46% at the end of the night she was probably blacked out. She didn't know what she was doing.

I think its just disgusting they're trying to profit of they're own daughters death. How can money reconcile the loss of a human being?

WTF!!!

Fair enough if you open a box of cereal and eat a dead rats spinal cord and get seriously ill or something, then sue...if your daughter drinks herself to death, the only people you can blame is her and yourself for raising her to be such a bar fly, but ultimately her, thats if your the type of person who "blames" in the 1st place.

Sure oyu can go onto saying the government make alochol legal to kill us off blah blah...everything should be legal, alcohol included. We ahve free will, that is part of life, we can drink ourselves to death or not...we should have more choices then just drinking ourselves to death...

Sorry to sound so agressive

She fuckin should have known what she was doing. It's survival of the fittest and there are not always second chances. If you reach 18 (much less 21) and don't know that alcohol can kill you then you don't know shit. I'm not blaming her. Those are just the facts.

It'd be nice if people looked out for each other.
Especially when drinking.

'She fuckin should have known what she was doing.'

When you reach a certain point you black out.
Its impossible to know what you are doing because the experience is not creating memories anymore.

Thats true there is a big culture of binging and encouragement to do so, especially by friends when its your birthday you get people literally pouring drinks down your neck, i used to dispise alcohol due to alcoholism in the family, but moderation is the key...
