Friends
    #1189625 - 01/04/03 09:15 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

what is a friend?

I mean I use to think I knew. But now I am not so sure. What sort of roles to friends play in a person's life? How important should they be?

I use to think friends were all important. But anymore I am beginning to feel that they real aren't important at all.

More on that later though.

A friend is simply an ally.
You can survive without friends, but for those that find comfort in a companion, this is difficult. I would say that the amount of freinds that you have isn't as important as the quality of freindship you have with them.
Friends are a great social tool, indeed. They can help you find a mate, give you emotional strengths, and help you out when times are rough.
But my answer would have to be no: friends aren't absolutely needed... but we need them, absolutely.

Well, you can count your true friends one just one hand.

I only have a couple friends. I do not think I have TRUE friends outside of family.

"what is a friend?"

People you know and are Friendly with. You may (or may not) visit them often for the sake of psychic equilibrium.

If you want to know what a true friend is, consider ChubbSubb's hint. They are basically family without blood relations. These people meet the requirments of a normal friend and those you'd expect from family.

"What sort of roles to friends play in a person's life? How important should they be?"

Every individual has there own answers to these questions. As for my take, I dont have one. I havent fully solidified how much i want people to be a part of my life. Im pretty introverted and get bored with others quickly. I havent met any intresting (people, outside the internet that is.) friends yet, so ill wait till then to post judgement.

i don't know what a friend is...
but i do know...that with out them, i would be a very sad person. i concider myself lucky to have the friends i do. and mabey they won't always be there, i mean, nothing lasts forever but as long as the times i'm with them are good ones....thats what counts for me...

Friends are good to have man..

Friends are there when you need them, they help ya laugh when your down and they'll pick u up and keep ya going when things seem hopeless. latly one of my friends disgusted me to the point where i dont even know if i can consider him a friend anymore..

Ditching Best friends because they never sold you drugs, and gave them away to kill a debt is not cool

friends can be thought of as tools: you need them for support in hard times and to spend time with cause you can't occupy yourself. they are needed for your own pleasure. this is not necessarily a bad thing, but people get attached to friends just like anything else.

Well, my two best friends were dating and they broke up.

I don't care.

When we hang out I am bored and wish I was alone so I could do something useful...

I feel bad about this sudden change... but it is how I feel.

Bored and indifferant.  :frown:

Ive wondered about this alot too...

I don't think true friendship is anything I could define really. It's just something that happens. Friends are people you won't nothing more of than their company. They are like-minds.

If you depend on a friend too much than you're being an inconsiderate friend.

Almost all of my friends have eventually showed themselves to be not real friends at all. Like a best friend of 5 years pinching bud from my bag on several occassions. It makes me wonder what sets people off to do evil things like that to people that have given them their full trust.

I know what you mean Larry. Sometimes you would rather do a more constructive activity by yourself, rather than doing nothing with your buds. Time by yourself is also 'needed' time. You just need a happy medium.

Take care, Trevor

I would consider people I've conversed with on this site to be friends.

I believe that online or otherwise we're all "like minds" in some respects, and while finding the obvious common ground is not always easy, I think there's real potential to find a "friend" in anyone.
