My non drug using friends are also depressed, cranky miserable and all other manner of down feelings. Way more than the normal level of winter blues.

I'm depressed because I know what's to come.

im not sure
i know that i am depressed sometimes when stone cold sober and drug free but if i smoked weed it would really be a dark depression to the point of crying

its like the sad emotions are there all along and some drugs either magnify it or let them out or the total opposite

I believe depressed people gravitate towards internet message boards.

Psychedelics do indeed bring about awareness of depression, where as non-users often veil their psyche in denile.

Dont forget... there is alot to be depressed about in the civilized world, but those depressing things are not us. We must seperate ourselves from our surroundings inorder to overcome the obstacles which lay ahead.

My main source of hope in life, is to end up off the grid.

I think that there are extremely high levels of depression in western society in general. I don't know if there is a significantly higher rate of depression for drug users compared with non drug users, but I suspect that there are differences in depression levels between, say, coke users and psilocybin users...but I'm just guessing. I'd like to see the studies!

and weed has been known to cause depression.


in fact almost all substance abuse has.

I could go on forever, but I think that a large part of it (in VERY simple terms) is that forever humans were always pressing forward believing that their discomfort or unhappiness could all be solved with "new and improved" stuff.

"Life will be so much better and easier when we finally get..."

Cars, indoor plumbing, phones without cords, more flights out of JFK so we don't have to sit as long and so on.

Well, now we have just about all we could ever really need, and more, there's very little room for artistic expression, even in small towns people are packed on top of each other like sardines, and many of the things that allow us to be human (too many to name) are either withered down to next to nothing or totally gone.

So then we act crazy, drink, screw and do drugs, get prescribed meds, act out, whatever, and for most folks that only makes it worse and leads to more of the consequences above.

It's quite shocking to watch society unravel, and for most people, too unnerving to accept without sadness.

End of my rant.

I haven't surfed since I left LA in the summer of '07, but I keep tryin.

I was too broke last summer to hit the beach... and I've been keepin my eye on the forecast for ocean city, md - vs beach lately. I'm trying to go this year and get back into it

I don't know the ratio of depressed people here, but I do know that it is a more understanding and close community here. People are more likely to share their feelings, especially since there is a forum here all about sharing feelings!

In other, less close knit communities, I am usually surprised to read about a frequent poster revealing that he was depressed. Hell, even in real life my best friend just told me he has been going through some serious depression lately (and that mescaline really helped him) which surprised me.

Here, it might appear that there is more depressed people because there are outlets. And as a group we are much less repressed than most people, especially on a message board where we even have the option to post anonymously.

It's because more people who use forums are introverts rather than extroverts, and introverts tend to be more "depressed."
This is especially true with drugs IMO, many drug users who are in it for more than "getting fucked up" are naturally introspective, which many introverted people do a lot. I'm on another personality message board for introvert, and it is way more depressing sounding than this place.

The internet is also a place where you can ask personal questions without worrying about being bashed upon (and even if you are bashed on, who the hell cares...its the internet) so many people ask more "depressing" sounding questions or bring up more "depressing" ideas because it's just plain easier to do on the internet.

Because people in real life are depressed all the same.

People find it easier to use the Shroomerites as a reservoir for their feelings more so than people in real life.

I garentee people you see/talk to all during the day are depressed but just keep their emotions out of their everyday lives. People cannot go around moping around like little bitches all day long. We save that for home.
