Potheads: are you a social smoker?

I'm just wondering what everyone's take is on this. I've been smoking pot, pretty much every day (with week or three breaks here and there) for about 12 years now. I used to smoke almost exclusively with my friends, very rarely did I ever smoke alone.. it was good times and I was pretty much with my friends all the time anyway. For the first couple years I was really social and creative whenever I got high no matter who I was around.

Nowadays, I prefer to smoke alone most of the time. Maybe I've just turned into a hermit.. most of my close friends moved across the country long ago. But I tend to feel more socially awkward when I get stoned around groups of people. I'm pretty introverted by nature, but pot seems to magnify that.. whereas in years past it used to diminish it. This isn't really an issue around close friends, or people I know well or am very close to. Seems to be more so with strangers/people I don't know very well, which happens a lot. Especially at social gatherings and festivals and whatnot.

Now don't get me wrong.. nothing quite like passing around a bowl of some sticky icky and shooting the shit with people.. and I'm of the opinion that pot is for sharing. But I think I smoke alone far more often than with others nowadays.. seems whenever I get baked around people I'm not very familiar with, I just shut down and my brain goes into zombie mode. Which is weird. Because when I toke alone, or with good friends... I'm usually very open and happy and just plain.. well joyful.

Or maybe I've just smoked way too much. Which is a possibility. But it hasn't lost its magic for me. When it does, I just take a break for a while. I've never had the desire to quit pot altogether, we are homeboys.. we go way back. I will most likely smoke it until I am an old old man.. it has been my drug of choice for over 10 years now.

Or maybe I've just turned into a social retard and pot magnifies that. Since most of my friends moved, I've stuck pretty much to myself.. work.. home.. read.. play music.. play video games, whatever. Unless a girlfriend is in the equation somewhere.. where the majority of my free time is spent. And maybe I've just gotten so used to getting high alone that it seems weird when its around other people now. And smoking with a significant other is basically the same thing in my opinion.

But it's not like I'm a complete hermit either. I meet new people all the time. And smoking is like, a ritual. Just when I'm at home I'm usually by myself. I thought travelling around the country and meeting new people all the time would help me develop some better social skills, but it didn't.

I don't know. Just felt like making a thread. Long ass tangent over now.

when i did smoke (smoked for 10 years, haven't smoked since april) i mostly liked to smoke alone or with my close friends. but i preferred to smoke alone mostly. although it was always fun to smoke with my dad, he's quite hilarious.

well depends on what im smoking. indica/sativa

id much rather prefer smoking bud that gets you up, high, rather than stoned slower.

but i usually end up smoking bud that gets you fucking stoned/slow and im usually the most laidback quiet one. i just can't help it i guess, im naturally introverted.

i follow that same philosphy, but id just rather it be more of a cerebral high, and less of sleepy high.

In social situations with a bunch of people I don't know, I do best if I'm with someone I can bounce off of well to make everyone laugh.

Cannabis makes me think better for the most part, and recently I've learned to use this to my advantage in social situations by thinking of better group comments to make and such, rather than just thinking about my own things.

I've been a hardcore introvert for most of my life, so smoking alone is a given, but I'll hang out with my brother on occasion and smoke a few bowls, catch up with each other's thoughts/ideas.

Anyways, just got home from work and it's time for a smoke methinks :gethigh:

That sums up the way I've been feeling about it lately. Sometimes the bud I smoke and the quantity affects that but for the most part I tend to smoke alone and chill out.

also an ex daily smoker, took a 2 1/2 year break while on housearrest, and smoking since then isnt the same. maybe cuz i dont have the same group of friends i did back then, but when i smoke now, i feel lke the whole world is attacking me. i get really defensive about everything. not outwardly, like you wouldnt notice, but i sure do. lately even around the closest of friends and family members i get intimidated, and im never intimidated by anytihng when im sober. the only thing in life i fear is God, and its like when i smoke now, i fear so much. i get cold when its not cold. i doubt all the things i KNOW i can do very well. the other night b4 a prayer i actually asked to be allowed to pray to God in the state i was in....and going from daily smoke, to feeling this way when i smoke, i dont think its worth it to smoke.
if i do it again, its going to be alone. away from everything, like out in a stream or out in the woods, where my head and heart wont steer me wrong.
i dont know if this is part of getting older. part of not smoking regularly after devoting all my time as a young boy to smoking and now hardly ever. or if its somethng going on in me, where my higher power says MJ isnt part of the plan i have for you.....just kinda cool im not the only one that weed makes an anti socialite when it used to be the great social connector for most of us....

I have been smoking weed for the past four years on a daily basis. Only recently has it been possible for me to smoke in my own room as im still under the same roof as my parents, they dont seem to mind.

I have been smoking 1 or 2 bongs a night just to chill me out for the past couple of months and it has been great times. I feel this is mainly due to the fact ive never really done it before.

Smoking weed with my close mates is equally as good but i always seem to  go through so much more weed, understandably. I do find it awkward at times smoking weed infront of someone i dont know, especially if they dont smoke it themselves as i dont feel as social when im high.

.. this post turned out bigger than i thought :jointsmile:

I usually like to focus on nature or some kind of art (usually music) and generally find stoner conversation tedious and distracting so alone it is.

ive learned the hard way that smoking with groups of people is a bad idea for me

my social anxieties seep in through the back of my mind and i get really confused

too confused to know whats going on with other people

its overwhelming


i find being stoned or even tripping alone is beautiful and rarely turns bad

it lets me breath and gives me time to think
