Tap with a small amount of hydrogen peroxide.

I'm no expert, but I would say distilled to prolong the life of your cool mist. With just a splash of h2o2 to kill any spores. Distilled cannot support life, h2o2 kills spores, with that your just about covered from anything.

Tap water is the only water source I use for any stage of mush growing.

I add 4oz to a full coolmist.
In my experience, if your casing is contaminate free, you shouldn't have to worry about what type of water your humidity consists of.

I don't think h2o2 is needed in your cool mist. I used to use it, but stopped just to see if it made any difference, and I couldn't notice any. At the stage where your using humidification, your substrate will already be colonized and able to defend itself. On top of that, h2o2 breaks down very fast in the open. It's probably only effective for a day max.
I use regular tap water. Just be sure to clean your humidifier every week with soap and hot water, that will keep algae to a minimum.

I've done both regular tap water and H2o2 in the cool mist ..... and didn't notice any difference.
I ran regular 'hard' tap water in my ultrasonic humidifier and have mineral deposits on the components ..... I guess distilled water would help with this. Depends on your local water.

Good call on the hard water. I always forget to mention it, as the water in my area is pretty good. Aside from the deposits, did you notice any other effects it had on your grow?
