Heart Problems while Shrooming

No, I am not talking about your standard racing heart that comes with anxiety, but sometimes when I alledgedly trip, my heart will skip beats, stutter and even beat backwards. Very disconcerting as it goes on for quite a while - my chest just feels wrong. I have a prediliction for this type of "misfiring", but have not had problems for many years. The medical term is Premature Ventricular Contraction (no jokes please) for when it beats backwards.

Anyone else have similar probs or suggestions? Next time I will load up on Vitamin E and co-enzyme Q-10 to see if that helps.

areyou sure about this. One time i was convinced my heart was beating fucked up and i had my sober sister check it and she thought i was just nuts....

Sounds like the time when I was smoking a ghotti in my basement and my step-dads friend's daughter came and smoked with us.. There were only 3 of us smoking on the ghotti and we only let her hit it once She pretty much collapsed on the floor screaming "I'M GOING TO DIE!" and we let her lay there and laughed at her until we finished.. and told her to get up and follow us.. All off a little bit of regs too. She layed on the couch the rest of the night saying stuff like "My heart just stopped beating!" and "My throat is closing up!"

And I can't forget the time when a guy drove us into a nature preserve so we could smoke a blunt of dro. He said he was having a heart attack and started shaking. Guess who got skipped on that rotation..

Completely sure. It was a low dosage, so I was almost sober and I had similar problems while totally straight many years ago.

It doesn't skip backwards, but beats backwards. Sometimes the electrical impulses that cause the heart to contract come in the wrong order. The ventricle will contract before the auricle causing the blood to flow backwards. Feels like somebody punched me in the chest and is quite disconcerting. One misfire is no problem, but a series can be very dangerous.

Man...that has happened to me lots. Especially when i'm REALLY REALLY high. It almost feels like i'm having a heart attack(for like 2 seconds). It's very common for me. Been happening to me for like 10 months. can't remember if it happened while on shrooms. I don't think so.

Actually.. That's great advice.. Something is definately wrong if you start having irregular heartbeats.

Good advice except for one thing; doctors are totally unfamiliar with the effects of mushrooms on electrical impulses to the heart. This is uncharted territory.

Thanks for explaining to me the whole physiological process behind one's heart beating backwards Swami. I've had that experience a handful of times(never on shrooms though) but didn't know what it was.....sort of like a car engine backfiring inside your chest. As far as taking co enzyme 10, I take that myself and from what I've read it can take any where from two to six months of taking it everyday before a significant enough concentration builds up in the heart muscle.

I have a heart condition, Aortic Valve insuffency, heart murmer and A pin sized hole in my heart and I've never had anything happen to me. Done tons of LSD and tripped shrooms many times.It's proably just panic feeling but you may want to get yourself checked out,usually if I get to feeling fucked I can concentrait and bring myself down outta the trip for the most part, but after that my trip is usually done and that sucks but, sometimes it's the best thing to do when I'm rushing way to hard.

Stop doing shrooms. From your other posts it doesn't sound like you get anything out of them anyway. I certainly wouldn't risk my life to see "trees melt" and "worms come out of my eyeballs".

It could be that there is an unassuming vampire/"friend" that has some kind of

A normal heart beat can skip beats and have other problems. But I also know what you are saying. I have experienced this when doing a shit load of weed(eating it). I can ear my heart beat in my ear and sometimes it goes away due to whatever and it used to concern me.

I don't think it's a big issue. I think your heart probably beats fine and most of the time you simply get distracted from a beat or a beat is a little weaker than the rest(or the rest are stronger) and it feels like a big difference. When tripping on weed I felt like my heart would ever once in a while have a really strong beat. Hard to explain, was weird and of course, when your that deep in to feeling these things you get more anxious because it feels different. I do think though, it is probably not good, it just happens. Do you exercise regularly and in good shape? I think it helps with in general. Basically if your body is not running at near 100% these sorta of weaknesses tend to be more obvious when you are in that state listening to your body. Normally you don't even notice. The drugs don't help, as they do put more strain on your body.

But the idea is your heart isn't going to stop working... even if it did, it's too late and your dead so there is no reason to worry about it. Live balanced life style(eat well, exercise, be happy) and that is the best you can do. Of course, don't mix drugs... If you are taking a stimulate and a suppressant or some doctor prescribe drug, it's all up in the air.

It's possible to have benign (harmless) premature ventricular beats, but it's difficult to say whether shrooms could cause this or not. A cardiologist would be able to provide better advice. Have you ever felt breathless or faint (like you are going to pass out) while tripping? I know that's probably really hard to tell, since you're tripping.

A couple of things you could try in order of simplicity:
- Feel your pulse either at your carotid artery or your radial artery, it should feel like a steady beat. If you feel a beat that is out of time with the others, it could be a premature ventricular beat.
- Use a sphygmometer to take your blood pressure and listen to your heart beat. Someone who knows what they are doing will easily hear a premature beat, and your blood pressure may show a decrease.
- Get a device called a Kardia AlivCor for like $100. It is a single lead ECG that anyone can use (it's seriously basic) and will show the electrical activity of your heart. This will tell you with fairly good accuracy if you have an irregular heart beat.
