i reckon thats a reishi. don't ask me the exact species tho. Reishi are creative with morphology, and are subsequently difficult to corner down to a species.
seeing growing fungus just makes me think of how much i hate the winter

All the Ganoderma are said to be medicinal (though some more than others), and as Micth said, they are prone to vary quite a bit within species. That along with the fact that so many species look so similar makes them difficult to ID to species.

Oh, oops... I didn't actually open the photos. Hahaha, sorry. Good point, I wouldn't exclude Fomitopsis, in fact, the colour seems more indicative of Fomitopsis than Ganoderma! Another medicinal I might add.

RR doesn't mod this forum, so I'm not sure if he regularly checks the threads in here. He is a very good identifier and an even better cultivator. But I mean, our expertise is identification... Do you have doubts about our advice?
I'd say based on the dark red and blue bands, it's Fomitopsis pinicola.

not questions anyone's skills. i just think RR could have a very good guess at it. i know these conks are hard to ID. i've been trying to ID it since november.
what about this one? Fomitopsis officinalis or pinicola?

F. officinalis is quite rare, tends to grow in old growth forests, has a much more drab colour compared to F. pinicola, and grows much thicker that it does wide. It is a very large and tall mushroom, with a relatively small area of pore surface compared to the rest of the mushroom.
It is another F. pinicola.
