Safe from winter
---
It's snowing again. Like last winter and the winter before.
Snowing down like ashes rising from a chimney.
The big flakes.
The ones that look like burnt pieces of newspaper, or old photos of someone you want to forget. That's what snow does. Whites out the natural memory.
Blankets all the beautiful things you know. Things you knew.
It usually never happens all at once. It kind of paces itself, steadies itself. Erases the greenery first, then the cars and street lamps. It builds up the shield of white until the streets are the same as the sidewalks and lawns.
Nothing is safe from winter.
