My first thread in MA&L

shall contain a few poems. I guess it's time for me to contribute, eh? Comments welcome.

Untitled, sometime in '95 (my first recorded effort)

A man lies huddled, trembling
Wrapped in a blanket, and fear.
He fears the cold that grips his body
And slowly numbs his mind.

He tries to retreat,
To return to the days of joy,
The days of running, playing, laughing,
The days of loving and being loved.

Tag in the hayloft,
Chase in the field.
FIrst kiss on the front porch.
Sneaking in through the back.
Warm summer nights
And cold winter days.

Again it is winter,
Again it is cold.
As a man huddles, trembles,
Chilled in a blanket of fear.

Symphony of the Rain, 5-29-97

In the darkness
rain falls
unseen, only heard.
Hear the melody
of droplets striking leaf,
tree, grass, earth, wood,
Life.
So too, man's life is only heard
In partial phrases
which he allows to be heard
as his self.
His desires, needs, emotions,
loves, hates, rejections
too personal
too sacred
are never heard
in the symphony,
unless in the undertone,
contributing nothing
but inspiration.
As I step outside again
to hear the music once more,
I am splashed.
I feel the rain
and in response
I contribute, never to be heard,
My most sacred thoughts

She watches me
I watch her
Eye contact
Not made
And again
Been there before
But what if she
Wants me
Like I want her?
She had her chance
She didn't want me then
But never did she
Play these games
Before
Playing with my mind
Letting me guess
If she wants me
Like I still want her
She can't be thinking
What I am
She had her chance
She didn't show
This side then
Why didn't she show
This side then
Sly, coy looks
Stolen, gone
She looks so good
But she's had her chance
Oh why didn't she
Want me
Like I still want her?
Why doesn't she
Still want me
Like I still want her?

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with string
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
Hot chocolate with marshmallows on a cold winter day
Someone who makes you laugh with everything they say
Weeping and crying and long-winded sighs
Hollow truths and hollower lies
Funeral processions that block up the street
Insurance salesmen you can't help but meet
Corruption that seeps into people in power
April showers that bring May's flowers
Kids having sex at eleven or twelve
Unread books that decorate shelves
Affirmative action, labor unions, greed
Absolute idiots being allowed to breed
Honkeys and crackers, rednecks and hicks
Homeboys and brothas, bitches and pricks
People who live in stereotypes
People who believe the media's hype
People who refuse to think for themseves
People who really should all just go to hell

I do. I like to look at the art (even when I'm sober :smirk:
