The Winter of Our Discontent--Steinbeck
    #1136148 - 12/12/02 05:55 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

This is perhaps the best book I've ever read.

Well, probably not, but I just read it and it's great.

I've little to say for now, and less time to say it: It gets my reccomendation. (So read it you ain't already, aight?

Cool. I always wondered where that phrase came from.

Never read it, though I do love Steinbeck's works. I think a trip to ye ol' library is in order.

Steinbeck boosted it from Shakespeare, actually. It's from the play Richard III.

I looked it up the other day.

I love the way the main character, Ethan Hawley, identifies his world, the other characters. His story could be any story, and be just as good; an honest depiction of human nature. I like the theme of honesty in Steinbeck's work.
