i hear shrooms lose potency the more they blue. i could be wrong though. either way that has nothing to do with how potent the strain is to start with.

Im almost sure that when they turn blue from brusing it is a sign of oxzadation which means a lost in potency. This is the same thing that happens when you freez fresh shrooms and they turn into a blue goo. But who knows maybe im wrong.

I always thought some strains gave off a blue cap color. Also, if your aborts are starting to turn blue, that pretty much means theyre starting to go bad, doesnt it?

The way I see it, is unless its a strain thats supposed to go blue [if they even exist! I know Ive seen blue mushies and always thought it was the strain] I wouldnt want them to be blue!

I've always assumed that it could possibly be a very rough indicator of relative potency. If one shroom bruised very deep and another one barely bruised at all it would stand to reason that there is less psilo to oxidize in the one that bruised less. But there are so many variables that I'm sure bruising could only give the utmost rough idea of relative potency.

In my 23+ years of shroomin', I've found that the bluer the stem, the more potent the shroom.

No that is not right - it is assumed that the blueing reaction is related to the oxidisation of psilocin which is less stable than psilocybin, but it has never been proven.
Generally, the stronger the buing reaction, the more psilocin is oxidising and their higher the content of psilocin. Bluing does not measure psilocybin - so you can have highly potent mushrooms like ps.Semilanceata that do not stain blue because they contain only psilocybin and not psilocin.
That being said, bluing is something i rely on with Ps.Cubensis to measure potency and I am sure that with cubies the bluing reaction demonstrates the relative levels of psilocin content AND potency of the fruit.
