Here's what I know about channeling:

Channeling involves drawing on the One Power from the True Source. Women channel by drawing on saidar, the female half of the True Source, and men channel by drawing on saidin, the male half of the True Source.

Very few people have the ability to channel... Some can be taught to channel, and an even smaller percentage of people are born with the ability.

Channeling involves weaving flows of Air, Water, Fire, Earth, and Spirit. Women are generally better at using the flows of Air and Water, while men are better at using Fire and Earth. Spirit is equal between the two, and is often used in Healing.

Healing is just one of the Talents that some people who are able to channel may have. Other Talents include Travelling, Foretelling, and Dreaming.

Channeling can be aided by the use of magical artifacts called angreal or sa'angreal. These enable a person to channel an amount of the One Source that would otherwise be too great for them unaided. Sa'angreal are more powerful and less common than angreal.

Another magical artifact dealing with channeling, called a ter'angreal, differs from the aforementioned in that it was made to do a particular thing. These can be dangerous, in that many of the uses of ter'angreal are not known or not wellunderstood. Some have been known to burn the ability to channel out of the person who tried to use them, or even cause death.

I have read that Carlos is a practitoner of Santeria , they include possession/ channeling in their rituals.
