Today I was in my back yard and I found a mushroom growing in the lawn. I picked it and wondered if it is the psychadelic kind.
The stem is white/off white and 2-3 inches long and the cap has a little white on it and is mostly very light brown and about 2 1/2 inches across. It was found in grass in my back yard. Found in Colorado

Did you read this thread at the top of the hunting forum? It is meant for people just like you.
Based on the information you gave, my guess would be that it is impossible for anybody to give a proper ID to that mushroom. So don't even think about eating it. Thank you, come again!

I did read it, but I can't seem to find anything that helps me tell if the mushroom is edible. The only other info I can give is that it was found in Colorado at an elevation of 5000 ft.

Obviously you didn't read the whold thing, because if you did, you would have seen this:
Take a spore print and post it as well. To make a spore print you cut the stem from the mushroom just underneath the cap and place it on a piece of aluminum foil, white sheet of paper, or preferably a piece of glass or a mirror. It is best to dampen a glass or a bowl and place it over it. The spores should drop onto the surface within a few hours enough so you can tell what color it is.

I live in the Denver area and have been collecting mushrooms here for more than 25 years, and your description gives me almost no idea of what you have. If you can't post a photo, write a description similar to the ones in the books of your find.
As far as finding psychedelic shrooms in the local lawns - good luck! As far as I know, they haven't been found locally. I'll verify that with somebody I know who is an expert on city mushrooms.
You may want to drop by the Mushroom Fair we'll be having in a couple weeks. It's not devoted to the psychedelics, but if you want to learn to ID mushrooms it's probably the fastest way to get up to speed. I'll put a post out here in about a week to give details for everybody who might be interested.
-------------------- Happy mushrooming!
