Ok so i just built a 9 foot by 9 foot room in my basement that in a couple days ill be lining with reflective mylar and hanging a 1000 watt system in. Now my question is, Would anyone have an estimate on how much it will raise my power bill to be running it on a 12/12 and 14/10 cycle or what ever. I dont want to be shocked later on.

sweet :]
+5 rating.
and here is the work in progress grow room. The light system and 600 square feet of mylar are in the mail and will be here in a couple days. It has a door on the left side wall that you cant see in the pictures. I think this is a good use for wasted space.

Ill update with pictures with progress later on.

you plan on using a 1000w for a 81 square feet area?? I hope not.
to calculate your power usuage, take however much your energy company charges you per kilowatt hour then multiply by how many hours it will be on per month. Not really that difficult.
12hours*30days*.15c/day = ???

Oh no its not the only light going in there. I got in touch with a college the next state over and they are going to send me a bunch of their lighting systems for free. They usually just throw them away every time they upgrade their lights. So ill probally set up maybe 4 more systems (all 400 watt) and a bunch of fluorescents (in a different room). I just wanted to know what all i could set up before the powerbill gets too outrageous.

Well my basement is about 1600 square feet and all it started out with is just have 2 framed walls and 4 large double windows. It has enough room and plumbing set up to build 4 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a living room/kitchen and still have enough room for either a walk in closet, sauna, or grow room. Im only putting one door in it just incase i decide to change it later. If anyone is wondering, I am not going to be growing anything illegal in there. I am setting it up because a green house costs alot and cant be used year around and i get very depressed during the winter months when plants go dormant. I just hope this will be enough to grow some tamarillo's and some chili peppers.

Well for me tarps cost as much as the wall did. 2 by 4's are only 1.93 right now here. So the wall cost around 20 bucks. I already had the screws, the primers for setting the baseboard against the cement and the nails for that. And i had all the stuff to put the 9 x 9 room on its own dedicated circuit.

Well my tanning booth/table are complete. I currently have a tobasco plant, a rosemarry bush, and a cat tanning in it. The light fucks up my camera (on my phone hehe) I ended up building a small table (on the right) to hold my ballast so it gets air at all angles. I have a fan on the other side of the room tilted upwards that is circulating the air. and uh.. guess thats it for now.

Actually it just came out of a window like 30 minutes ago that was getting like 7 hours of light a day. It needs some fertilizer and light. Can you see how its tilted towards the camera? Thats where the window was, it was completely hugging the window trying to get light lol.
EDIT: ahhh crap, it is wilting some on the very top of it. Guess ill work on giving them some shade. anyways heres all my plants and cacti. there is like 6 different types of sacred cacti seedlings in this picture. 2 mini rose plants that are starting to go dormant (i hope i can take them out of this), 2 agave plants, 3 spider plants.. and some other plants including a mystery plant that was supposed to be pereskiopsis but looks nothing like pereskiopsis (picture of the mystery plant at the end of this post). These are just all my light thirsty plants that are not happy right now cause of winter. all my normal houseplants are in my living room.

carpet bad in grow room. harbors pests, collects moisture, supports mold, absorbs light.
