Best way to learn spanish in 2 months?

Ok, so im going to Peru to backpack around south america, in March.
I have no background in spanish, and would like to get the basics of communication down, before i leave.
I've got a lonely planet with key words and phrases, a "learn to speak spanish" computer program, and a spanish to english dictionary, and nothing but time to study in the new year.
(Depending on my progress: I was considering doing a 2 week immersion program upon arrival in cuzco, where i stay with a spanish family and take lessons in small classes....)
Any thoughts on this, or internet resources?

You could spring for Rosetta Stone or some other linguistic software, but that shit tends to be pretty pricy (not to mention boring).
Were it me, I'd just go for the immersion.
Cuzco is actually pretty Anglicized, so you shouldn't have TOO much trouble communicating.

Yeah, rosetta stone seems to be the best out there, but oh my is it pricey.
Ive got similar software my parents bought me in highschool, that i never used.. So im going to try that out.. but will imagine it'll be boring as fuck. Might consider splitting the cost of rosetta stone with my roommates who are going to south america next fall.
I have a hardtime studying on the computer, or even in my house.. Im drawn to MSN and the shroomery, its a constant distraction (been considering getting myself banned.)

Well hands down immersion is the best and quickest way to learn the language, so maybe find a family from Peru and see if you can hang out in their living room for a week before you go?
Otherwise just find people that know Spanish and ask them to just have a conversation with you on a regular basis as if you really know Spanish, and eventually you'll learn how to respond, but I don't know how much you could get down in 3 months just doing that a little bit each week or something.

Yes, if you were really serious about it, there are probably torrents for it.../

Through the school in cuzco, they will link you with the family...
Basically for 410 american dollars, i will get 2 weeks instruction (4hrs a day, 5 days a week in a 4-5 person class), a private room in a families home, and 3 meals a day.
It seems worth it to me, even just for the experience... it seems like a good way to adjust to the new surroundings..
Until then, im just going to try and learn a few key spanish words everyday, and learn some phrases. Worried about pronunciations though..
The only spanish speaker i know.. is on MSN.

Peru is awesome man, I've gone a few times alone to surf and with my girl....to surf some more. I'd had Spanish classes before I went the first time. I found that the lessons weren't the key factor in me learning the language. Getting a handle on the language thru classes is vital, but once you get there and your immersed in the language. Thats when it really clicks, once you start thinking in that language you'll speak it with no problem.
Cuzco is amazing, make sure you go see the Incan temples, and if you got the $ take the Chopper ride over the sand pictures.
Machu Picchu is a must!

well i'd say learn basic phrases and grammar through the internet....you will really learn a lot pretty quickly when you are immersed in it...thats really the only good way to learn a language imo
