so i just recieved a 100$ petsmart gift card and what i think im going to do for my fruiting chamber is a 10 gallon aquarium with a Tropic Aire Humidifier & Air Exchanger....now my question is what could i put in the aquarium for temp and will i need to put anything else in the tank for humidity?

ok i couldnt find a link to the aquarium but its just your standard 10 gallon with a light at the top nothing fanc.....here is a link to the humidifier http://www.reptilesupply.com/product.php?products_id=341 and im just gonna add in the standard temp/humidity guage.....hmmm im thinking maybe i should find something that i can set up to the humidifier that when my humidity drops below 94% it would turn the humidifier on.....any suggestions?

Ahh, that thing. IMO, it will help, but not replace Perilite for humidity and fanning for FAE.

Humidity based switching is pretty expensive ($200+), unless you're comfortable with electrical engineering and make your own sensor / switch ($40+). Personally, I would let that device run 24/7, and fan at least twice a day (you'll check on them atleast that often, I'm sure).

IME, make sure you get a good ole' analog/mechanical humidity gauge... the little 6 dollar one from petsmart is better than any digital I've tried under $60. I'm a recent convert.

For the temp question... as long as your room temp is 70*+, that should be fine - the hood lamp will probably warm it up a few degrees as well.

Happy Holidays;

thanx man so i should put the wand that attaches to the humidifier under a layer of wet perlite? and i was thinking it should be fine running 24/7 and im also ok with the twice a day fanning

I've never actually done the wand under the perilite, but it seems like a logical choice. Keep in mind that the perilite that the wand is under will have different stuff going on... wet air passing through it... will it dry that section out? Make it too wet and create standing water? I'm not sure... test it while your jars are incubating... :smile:

Another thought is to rest it on the perilite between the cakes/casings, or in some other strategic location that you want to target for "extra" humidity.

hmm what i might try is sticking it to the the side of the aquarium aiming at the cakes/casing.....seems logical i will have to test it out though

DONT BUY THAT TROPICAIR HUMIDIFIER! That was what I based my first fruiting chamber on.

It was a total failure. I did however go back to petsmart and bought this foggerhttp://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752534&cp=2767037.2769282&view=all&pg=2&fbn=Taxonomy%7CHabitats+%26+Accessories&f=Taxonomy%2FPET%2F2769282&fbc=1&parentPage=family&keepsr=1

And that became the base of my second fruiting chamber.http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7281980#7281980

I have had nothing but success with it!http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7479387#7479387

It's just an idea. You can make the humidifier part of it and connect it to your aquarium.
