I don't use a pressure cooker but i've read somewhere it's like 15psi for about 45 mins. I just boil my jars but the water shouldn't be bubbling over the lids. I don't think it matters if you punch holes in the lid before or after but make sure whatever you do it with is sterile if you do it afterwards. Also don't tighten the lids all of the way, make sure you keep them a little loose so they won't explode in the pc.

15psi for 20 minutes actually. You'll want four holes punched near the exterior of the jar. I cover them with tape and then put a layer of tin-foil over that. When I innoculate I take off the tin-foil, go through the tape and innoculate, and then replace the tin-foil. In effect, i'm not really covering the holes so they get minimal air-exchange whichs tends to lead to faster colonization with less problems.

My rockers breaks apart into three parts. The smallest one is 5PSI, the medium one is 10PSI and all three put together is 15PSI. You probably have something like that too?

Looks like you need to get a replacement guage/weight. Check Presto on line and just order a replacement. They're pretty cheap and you'll be ready to go!

The PC wont blow up since no pressure will be building up. Most of the steam is going to escape straight out of the hole in the lide there and thats why your suspose to have something to put over it. Treat it like a normal pot of water and boil for one hour.

Thats good to hear...like I said earlier mine has three differnt sizes which are 5 10 and 15psi respectively. Your rocker probably maxes out at 15psi since any higher is a bit dangerious for house-hold pressurecookers.

Mine just goes on top and sits there. I dont have to screw it in or anything...that would just scare me. I suggest you look for the manual before you use it...blowing up a PC isn't fun!

You want the lids up. You want the innoculation holes allready punched. Like I said: cover them with tape first and then a layer of tin-foil. Yea, I used somthing similar on my mom, she found out but it was better in the long run. I'm much happier now that i'm honest.
