I need some serious help.
    #7734372 - 12/08/07 06:48 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

My employer really takes sexual harassment issues seriously. I turned someone higher up on the chain of command for numerous cases of sexual harassment against people below him. I was told id stay anonymous. Well i come back to work two days later to find out that my supervisor told everyone including the person i turned in that i turned him in for sexual harassment. That person then comes in to work 2 hours early that day, not to work but to sit there and stare at me until i get off work. The assistant manager told him to leave cause he was scaring employees. Well while he was at my work he met up with someone else who i work with and talked to them for a while. I didnt think anything of it at first until today. Human resources was interrogating people all day about this low life. Then finally i was called into the office. Someone turned me in for threatening bottley harm on them and i was suspended for the weekend. (they usually do this cause they are not allowed to fire someone on the weekends) Now the person that turned me in remains anonymous but im pretty sure it was the person that was talking to the sexual harasser the day prior cause well people are telling me he is going around saying i threatened to stab him in the back. Now when people report things at work they remain anonymous and the other person is guilty until proven innocent and there is no way to be proven innocent unless someone actually tells you who made what claims against you. My job is on the line here. Do i not have the right to know who made the claims against me? Im pretty sure this is slander. Is there any legal action i can take against the person or the company i work for if they end up firing me? I knew something like this was going to happen if i turned him in for sexual harassment. People are deathly afraid of him because management ignores complaints against him and well i went over there head to report it.

Get a lawyer. They violated your rights. If you win in court, they have to pay for your lawyer anyway. And trust me, you will win buddy.

Oh yeah. He sexually harasses everyone but the last time he was turned in to the assistant manager it was completely ignored cause he is good friends with the one he was turned in to. Thats why no one ever turned him in. I mentioned that in my report. A lot of people are happy that i stepped forward cause now they are. I have team members, team leads, supervisors and two assistant managers that are all claiming to be sexually harassed by him. He has no chance in hell for keeping his job. It sounds like i might just be transfered to a different department to be seperated from the person that claims im going to stab him in his back even though im the most non violent person that works there. I dont mind transferring cause the supervisor in the other departments have been begging me to transfer cause i actually do my job very well and am a hard worker. Im hoping for the best here cause i do like my job very much.

OP, here's a minor warning for you: the signs are slight but there's a wee little chance the guy you reported may be a sociopath.

If he is, that means there's a small but present risk of serious violence if the situation escalates.

Bend like bamboo and don't snap like a tree is what I'm saying. Try keep the situation relaxed but don't take no shit either because such a guy will just keep on shitting.

By the way, I'm not saying he is a sociopath, just that he raises some red flags according to your description. I've had the misfortune of running into a couple of sociopaths in my life so whenever there's risk involved I assess if I see signs of it.

You can websearch it but basically many sociopaths are rotten-to-the-core assholes. There's no reasoning with 'em because they change the rules of the game at a whim, and they'll never get any better.

My red flags:

Quote:

someone higher up on the chain of command

Position of power

Quote:

numerous cases of sexual harassment against people below him.

consistent abuse of that power, breaking the rules of social and sexual conduct.

Quote:

That person then comes in to work 2 hours early that day, not to work but to sit there and stare at me until i get off work.

Unusual and elaborate intimidation attempts

Quote:

The assistant manager told him to leave cause he was scaring employees.

It isn't just you spooked by it

Quote:

Someone turned me in for threatening bottley harm on them and i was suspended for the weekend. (they usually do this cause they are not allowed to fire someone on the weekends) Now the person that turned me in remains anonymous but im pretty sure it was the person that was talking to the sexual harasser the day prior cause well people are telling me he is going around saying i threatened to stab him in the back.

Very suspect for various reasons.

Quote:

People are deathly afraid of him

Again, several others consider him a risk, its not just you.

Any of these things separately could be relatively trivial but combined they to me raise a red flag that you might be dealing with a sociopath or in other words a major league asshole barely hindered by a conscience.

He actually likes it when people dont like him. He came into work one time and cornered everyone one by one and asked them why they dont like him and they would answer and he would smile and say. "Good"

So i guess its just going to be a waiting game to see if i do anything. They know i realise my rights as a whistle blower and those rights were violated by my supervisor so they better do a decent job on investigating everything before they jump conclusions and fire inocent persons..

His right as a sociopath is to fuck up anyone who crosses their path by any means deemed appropriate at the time. When there's no moral compass any direction is the right one.

Don't let it get to a confrontation, there's nothing to gain there. Lets hope the people do their work properly.

Your supervisor was way out of line, that's for sure.

The simple fact is - unless they can prove that you did make such a threat, they have no case.
Just return to work as if you were never suspended.
If they have a problem with that, then threaten to take them to court, even if you have no intention of doing so.

In fact, you could come to work wearing a suit (if you don't wear one already), and let them know that you have to leave after lunch because you have an appointment with a lawyer later in the day.

That may be enough to get them to cooperate.

Well if they fire me or not ill get paid for any days im supposed to be at work but couldnt come due to being suspended. paid vacation pretty much. The thing im worried about is all they really need is one whitness and im fucked cause i recently got this lady written up for signing into my computer under someone else's name and i saw them talking to her as i was leaving work the other day. Everyone had to have their passwords reset because of her.

if its not a government job, kiss your ass goodbye

they can fire you for any reason and don't have to tell you. be looking for another job, unless you were the one being sexually harrassed, then you might have a case.

good luck
