habitat: gregarious to cestipose,rarely slitary,found late spring and summer on disturbed or cultivated grounds often devoid of herbaceus plants.prefering muddy orangish brown soils.first reported from near montgomery alabama ,by Murril in 1923 on sugarcane mulch,and not redocumentated from the locality since. P. caerulescens is wide spread throughout central regions of mexico,and also venzuela and brazil.
comments: a potent species ,13 pairs of this mushroom was eaten by R. gordon wassun during his inaugral session with maria sebina,the renowned mazatec healer.heim and hoffmann(1958) found .20%psilocybin and 0%psilicin,but from aged specimens. P. caerulescens is obviously more pot4ent then they reported.along with P aztecorum,this mushroom is likely the species refered to by sahagun as the teonanacatl used by the aztecs. considerable variation in cap color and extensive range of this mushroom undrscore the probable number of forms this mushroom expresses.the fibrillose patches on the stem seem to be fairly consistent feature.this mushroom frequnetly fruits in clusters.also,very young mushrooms when cut lengthwise show a distinctive inrolled margin in the cross section of the cap.this shape is reminisent of the forms the aztecxs prtrayed in their art.this shroom can be very bitter,otherwise forms lack any distinct flavor.
well hopefully you can maybe find some landsliders airdog!!! i would love to see some pics!!!

There are more than 33 species of magic mushrooms used in Oaxaca for ceremonial healing and curitive purposes.
No one person can actually claim what mushroomswas teonanacatl since it referred to all mushrooms as teonanacatl.
In Mexico today, no shaman, cuarandera, brujo, sorceror, etc calls the mushrooms teonanacatl and that name according to Guzman might just be a bastardization of another similar name found in the codices.;
Of course you all must be aware that Psilocybe cubensis is used by some shamans but was never employed by Maria Sabina , as most Mazatecs and most shamans found it to be inferior because of its association with the manure of four-legged ruminants.
And to add to that matter, there were no cattle in The Americas until the arrival of the Spanish who brolught cattle from Aftrica, where by the way, no Psilocybe cubensis has ever been found.
