You don't, maybe one day he'll get his GED at least, thats pretty much the same now a day, at least around here it is, high school is bullshit anyway, it's just the principal of the matter. I don't understand why people would quit that late on so many people quit their senior year which is stupid unless you got some good reason, may as well finish what you started by that point.

Well I told my dad about the talk I had with my brother and he completely supports it.  He actually gave me a hug for the first time in 3 years, so it felt a little weird..:crazy:  My dad says he's not going to  give him anymore money, and take away the car except for when he has to work, but we'll see just how much he sticks to it.

why cant he take the bus? if he wants to live like a retard, take his car too. let him fight for everything. if a bus is out fo the question, drop him off and pick him up an hour or so late every day. he has no 'needs'... why would he think he needs to do the right thing?

Punishing a 17 year old like that who obviously doesn't have the maturity to even realize the value of school wouldn't work in my book. I'd first at least try telling him to use his "Tupac mentality" to his advantage.

Tell him your life WILL be harder when you drop out because you are automatically at a disadvantage for a job. Tell him he can just barely get by high school, it's only another year or whatever, and then he can play the system and use his stupid highschool diploma to his advantage.

I would think it'd be worth a try to think on his level, in a sort of way

He's gonna be cleaning my shoes soon. We can't have everyone make 100k a year. He will take his rightful place soon on the food chain.

Keep your brother in the situation he is in now, because i sure don't want to clean my shoes myself waiting for the train.

On a more serious note.

I don't think anything is going to help. There is no will in him, from what it sounds like. Taking away his resources is all you can do.

You can not help someone who does not want help. Maybe you should talk about the stuff he wears. Like the G-Unit clothes he purchases. Talk to him about real money. Making large sums of it. Like the rappers he listens to.

He may say they didn't have anything and made it big, but thats not really true. They needed to meet someone who had the resources and the know how in the business world to exploit and create the rappers empire.

With a High School Diploma (pretty much worthless, since a bachelors degree is basically pretty much worthless now to) he can at least have a greater opportunity to make the "big" money.

You have to sell him on the idea of options. Remember, options are always more valuable than not having one. Tell him without a High School Diploma or equivalent he doesnt have any options. Maybe look up some Data and see if the rappers have GEDs or gone back to get it. Who knows.

I pretty much just rambled on and on and reiterated what everyone has said.... whatever.

If my brother was like yours, Id tear into that kids head so hardcore about how much of a dumbass he is, his appearance, his attitude.. Id fuck with that kids head constantly.

Id drive him into the meanest fucking ghetto on the southside of chicago and kick him out of the car and then hed learn quick that 1) he is not black 2) he is not tough 3) he is not streetsmart 4) he is a dumbass

I dunno, Id be embarrassed. my brother and I always were cool with eachother, and i never had to de-wiggerize a person in my familiy before...

As someone who's gone through the horrors of persecution of drugs by my parents and later, the government  and also for missing out on school because I was going through some deep stuff trying to find out who I was and what the meaning of life is and having the corruption  and evil in this world just hit you like a ton of bricks. And all the heartlessness in the world. And you don't know exactly how it feels to be him. I'm not there, but it's entirely possible for him to be depresessed. A lot of people in this world are depressed.

But what you should definitely NOT do is go judging your brother, trying to act like a second dad, and trying to exert  control over . Let your dad do his job. Try to be a little bit more understanding and slow to come to conlcusions. Your mom died you said. That's definitely something to be depressed about. Maybe your brother is a slacker and he's being irresponsible. But still, do not go getting the government authorities involved in this. That is a very bad mistake. It can very easily put your brother even farther away and incite him to anger.

Just try to talk to him, and reason with him. You're not his dad and you don't have the right to go judging him or acting like his second dad. Most people wouldn't want themselves treated like that I would think.

Please, just leave the kid alone, but make him aware of his responsibilies and support him to do what's good and speak up when he does something stupid. You don't have the right to judge him. That's not your job.

Once you get the authorities involved, it can be difficult to get them out of your life. He can go spiraling downwards in a nightmarish circle of confusion and anger at the madness of this world and seeking relief and then being condemned and then seeking relief from being condemned and being condemned for seeking relief from being condemned and on and on it goes and they continue to shut you inside a little box of their human design and disregard you and your needs, as you face a world of shallowness.

Smoke some weed with him and talk to him about it. In a loving and understanding way.

I'm not saying your brother is not wrong, but there is a better  way to handle the situation and he may have legitimate feelings and frustrations etc.

also.. don't worry about your brother finishing high school too much. He can study and get his g.e.d. There are things much more important than school or work.. if you havn't learned that thats something you have to learn.It's one of the most important lessons in life.

NS _ I think the key word here is "Force" - you cannot force someone to change -you can only show them a better way - and then walk away.
From reading your initial post - it seems this sibling is causing a rift in the family - (between you and him, your dad and him and you and your dad)
I think it might be better in the long run if you focus on getting your dad better and back off your brother.

It has been my experience with younger siblings that they sometimes act out - almost forcing the family to "prove its love" by acting crazy, and seeing who will come to resuce said sibling - It is better to love but not coddle - I am a big believer in tough love and letting the child find thier own path.

A powerful statement to use on the sibling in question is :"Its ok if you dont want to finish school. There is always a job moping floors or filling up gas tanks. You will never have to worry, you'll probably have 2 or 3 jobs just to make ends meet! You'll be fine" (nothing like a little reverse psychology)

Most times young adults don't know the deep ramifications not being educated will have later on in life. Anytime you try to force a person to do something, it is a natural instinct to try and go the other way. Lay off - see if he comes back.

BTW _ did a traumatic event happen within the last year? Lots of time a younger sibling will act out after a tramatic event as a sign they are not healed yet.
