Hey, All my shrooms seem to be incredibly fat. Is this normal or is something causing it and how can I fix it. Thanks, jim.

Those are so called "fat asses". I dont think anything can cause it in casing but i know if you leave a cake on the perlite you will get them but they will be full of water.
Was your casing layer a little more wet than it was supposed to be? Fd

wow, is the casing just pure animal fat or soemthing? As long as they don't abort iam guessing they should be fine if they are fat, maybe they will lose some fatness in the next couple days...

We did.
However, "they just sometimes get like that" isn't very imperical.....is it? Maybe there are people who are interested in *why* this happens?

My friend is growing EQ's and they do the exact same thing. Must just be the strain. I had this one fatass, I swear, its ass was nearly 2.5" in diameter, and then is sprouted this long thin stalk on top of it. It was so fat, after I picked it, I danced with it and sang a tune.

I thought "fat-asses" were due to light. I have some on a couple of cakes of mine that are not Eqs.

HOLY FAT-ASSES BATMAN!!!! Indeed. Thank you Tech. for posting your photos. The smile that came across my face the second I saw your post was 5 miles wide. It takes me back to a time when I consistently got fat asses for a little while. There's nothing wrong with them at all. Sometimes they do that. Several of the strains of PC do that, you're just lucky enough to get to see them in person. All of the fat assed shrooms I've ever grown were potent as fuck and bruized blue-black just after picking them. I personally love the FAT-ASSES. Plenty of bums for the luvin'. And hardcore luvin' at that.

I always found my fat asses to be alot less potent by weight. IN my humble opinion I would not say the fat asses are entirely related to air exchange, but rather your water content. Cubensis suck up tons of water, all you've got there are mushroom water balloons. When you pick them squeeze them and see how much meat is in the middle. I did an expeiriment with this once. I took a PF cake and set it on perlite to grow, the other was rasied above the perlite. The cake on the perlite produced some ,ushrooms very similiar to yours, and it was EQ also.

i grew EQ's and they did that... kindof a pain, but no worries. they're a little too wet, that's all... just watch out for rotting and stop misting your casing.
