MHRB particles won't settle
    #7675419 - 11/24/07 06:03 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Deepest apologies if this is in the wrong forum, and although I'm well aware there have been countless threads on DMT extractions, I could not find an answer to this particular question using the search (I TRIED).

The following is a purely hypothetical situation:

Assuming AFOAF was preparing a DMT extract following the popular Marsofold extraction method, what would cause the MHRB particles not to settle? This is directly after the polar extraction in a slow cooker:
"Allow the vegetable particles in the extraction in the 1-gallon container to settle to the bottom overnight"

Let's say this has been done, however about 5% of the particles have remained on top / in the middle, even after sitting still in a fridge for over 24 hrs. Does anyone know how imperative it would be that the liquid is totally clear of any MHRB particles during basification? Very new to this, thank you.

There will always be a few particles that don't settle, don't worry about it. Pour the juice into your gallon jug being careful not to let any of the sludge at the bottom come with it. After that spoon the sludge into some cheescloth or a tshirt and squeeze the juice out of the sludge and add that to your jug. Get every bit of liquid into the jug and discard the sludge/ plant matter.

Did you put it in the fridge? The cold seems to help the gunk settle and clump together. It seems the clearer you can get at this point, the clearer your final product will be. Just to be safe, you should filter after settling. First with a t-shirt or other cotton filter, then with coffee filters, or better, lab grade filter paper.

Thank you much!

Another question for any kind person who cares to answer:

So let's say they ended up with about 3 liters of dark brown/purplish liquid (almost black), with most of the sediment gone, should extra steps be taken to make the liquid more clear or would it be okay for basification? Also since some fluid was lost during the polar extraction in crock pot & decanting, should the amount of lye be adjusted?

"Basification: Premix in advance a solution of: 5 Tablespoons (63grams) of Sodium Hydroxide ("Red Devil" lye) with 1-Pint of WARM Water"

Dark liquid is fine, and you can even simmer it down a bit if the volume is too much to work with. No need to adjust the amount of lye, in fact the updated version of the tek I've seen calls for 70 grams, if you are starting with 1lb MHRB.
