i tried going into device manager, but i cannot find a place where it specifies.
the reason i ask is because 1) i don't remember, obviously, and 2) i just bought a new 250g external hdd and it's supposed to have transfer rates up to 480mbs, but it's seeming to go more like 4kbs.
i'm trying to transfer 70 gigs of music onto it, but leaving it running overnight resulted in maybe 1 or 2 gigs being transfered. not cool
this is the hdd i bought. it had a lot more positive reviews on newegg, but was removed from listings literally days after i bought it.

alright, thanks. i figured the pci one had to be usb 2.0 because virtually everything bought in the past 7 years or so has been. but now i'm even more confused because i've never had any troubles with the pci port before..
i reformatted the drive from fat32 to ntfs as recommended before putting anything on it.
i tried updating the hdd's drivers with automatic update, but it said it's already got the most compatible software. i tried going to WD's site, but none of the software they have for this drive is a driver or anything to increase performance... just add-ons.
i gotta say i'm rather disappointed.. and at a complete loss.

You can buy a USB 2.0 PCI card for like $30

i don't think i want to waste money on that. i feel like it's not the USB ports because i tried both the onboard usb 2.0 and the usb pci card (third party, my mobo is asus, this usb thing is msi) i already have attached, both with the same results.
