Essay on gun control

I'm working on an essay on gun control; that passing laws regulating guns won't work on people that don't care about what the law says, IE criminals. Citizens with guns may actually deter crime. My two arguements are below, but I need a third. Any ideas guys?
Increased gun control regulations are ineffective at reducing gun-related crime rates.
Increased gun control regulations allow criminal acts, which are preventable or able to be deterred by the presence or implied presence of a firearm, to take place.

Would it be relevant to point out that an armed populace is better-equipped to fight off or deter tyranny?

imo, they shouldnt have gun control. now im not saying they shouldnt have gun safety or nothing, im just saying they shouldnt make a certain gun illegal cause its automatic, or the stock collapses, or cause u can put a silencer on it... put it this way, if u want somethin bad enough u will get it. in other words, if someone wants an automatic gun, they will get it. weather its from the gun store or off the streets itll happen. just like if someone wants someone else dead, it will happen weather its with a gun, knife, rope, or their bare hands. so, yea i think more gun control is stupid. its just setting more rules for the good to follow and the bad to break

Make sure you say something about Vermont, the only state with no gun regulation. It is one of the lowest in the country when it comes to violent crimes.

Vermont's low violent crime rate is due to its being Vermont. They don't need gun control.

you should look through pal...there are some great threads in there that cite great information.
basically, you only need to make 1 point and substantiate it with plenty of available statistics and information.
basically:
gun control laws achieve the opposite of their intended effect; they tend to increase rather than deter crime.
take the united states...in 20 years violent crime rates have dropped to all time lows as gun laws have become increasingly less rigid.
state by state, compare states with little to no gun laws...vermont and some of the western states.
also note, any good essay not only pumps it's points, but it also actively seeks to discredit the likely arguments that will be raised to refute it.
the vermont has low crime because it's vermont bit.
you can prove that this is an inadequate argument by showing a consisten pattern of lower violent crime in states with little to no gun control
and
how have violent crime rates changed with gun control has been implemented and rescinded.
california would be a good state to look into on that one with all of our bullshit bleeting heart only 2 bullets per gun bullshit.
