FDA approved study of Psilocybin for OCD

I was very surprised and happy to find out that the FDA has recently approved a research study using Psilocybin as a possible treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This could lead to an accepted and widely used therapy for OCD using a psychedelic drug. And could also finally get society out of the "dark ages" when it comes to attitudes towards mushrooms. (hurray)!
This all came about after many people who suffer from OCD, reported that after took mushrooms for recreational reasons, they found that their symptoms were greatly reduced, even weeks after they tripped.
This kind of therapy would probably only be used for the very severe cases. Those people who are almost incapacitated by their OCD symptoms. Think of it like shock treatment, when all the other treatments haven't helped enough.

I suffer from OCD myself, and I have always been amazed by how my symptoms became almost nonexistent days and even weeks after I took the mushrooms.
I event told my Dad (a social worker) about how the mushrooms had helped me, and he only laughed and said it was my own wishful thinking that made it happen. Well, now after I showed him the new information about this study, he isn't laughing anymore, and thinks its pretty interesting. HA!
Also MDMA (Ecstasy) was approved as a possible treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

I haven't looked over the links yet but if what you're saying is true then this would be a real landmark in terms of psychotherapists "officially" using psychedelics as a form of treatment. Our respective governments pretty much put an end to this kind of research late 60's if I remember rightly.

Yeah, but what sometimes happens is the pharm companies just find a way to modify the chem so that it is effective (probably less effective) yet without the "pesky" high because most pharm companies are locked into thinking that the effectiveness of a drug is mostly due to its physical neurochem action without realizing that, in this case, the change in thought pattern may be part of the effectiveness also.
