Wow, I've never found subbs that meaty looking growing out of a lawn/field. I don't know how you do it. The healthiest looking subb I've ever found have a stem that was mildly red/brown, and a cap comprable to that of an average mycena. Not the largest.
Nice job subbedhunter.

That doesn't surprise me considering the weather there. Doesn't it get boring having 'perfect' weather year-round?
My subb patches are kaput!

man, I'm not jealous. I find them constantly here too now. I figured out where to look, and I've been very lucky to have moved right next door to a newish subdivision with lots of good subb patches in damn near every other lawn.
I even found some a few days ago, after it had gotten cool (60s at night) for about a week and then warmed back up to about 80 in the day. I wasn't expecting to find much at all, and came back with a good couple of doses worth, and only one foe in the whole batch, but I knew it was a foe when I picked it... just had to be sure I wasn't throwing a good one away.
I actually had to throw a bunch away a few weeks ago because they sat in my fridge too long and got a bit slimy. They weren't really rotten, just less than fresh. I dried the salvageable ones using a ton of salt and a fan, and figure the salt would kill any bacteria as well. They're too salty to eat as is, but mixed in with some low sodium V8, they'll work out just fine, I think.
All in all I'd say I have a good four doses worth. I need to take a day off just to melt into the couch and listen to my ipod and squeegee my third eye clean.

True.
Pinhead, what do you prefer, cubes or subbs?

well, I can't really answer that question. In theory I will like subbs better. I already like the taste better, but I haven't eaten enough at one sitting to feel any effects from them. Prior to August, I hadn't found enough at one time to be effective.
That said, I like cubes alright, and fresh the taste is not the worst thing I've ever eaten. Dried, they taste like dirt and peanut shells. Or maybe farts. I don't like the intensity of cubes on the come up, and I find them to be a bit like LSD in that regard, just not as intense. That isn't a reason not to partake of cubes, though.
Everyone tells me that subbs are much mellower, so I'm expecting to like them more than cubes. I'm a bit concerned that I can't really control the dosage as much as I can with cubes, because I hear they seem to vary quite a bit in psilocybin/psilocin content. Of course, the first time I did cubes, I threw a cope and some aborts in, and fucked my active chemical ratio up on that anyway... that was an unexpectedly intense trip... I wasn't aware of the potency differences vs. weight with aborts and copes. But it was a very pleasurable experience anyway.
I haven't eaten the subbs I have yet because of my busy schedule. I really need a day off with nobody at the house to experiment with them.

If youre worried about the dosage, just try two grams starting and raise it from tehre if you need to. I rarely need to eat more than two grams to enjoy myself. Also, the psilocin content is near zero in subbalteatus. psilocybin and baeocystin are the active chemicals in them. the psilocybin means they will be able to retain more potency after drying than if there were more psilocin and the baeocystin breaks down over time.

I'm a fan of the subbs.
Funny, yesterday I was lamenting the demise of my subb patches and today I found quite a haul - easily the biggest I've ever found. Pictures tonight!

I just found another twenty or so on a fifteen minute walk down the street. There is a patch that keeps fruiting TWO DOORS DOWN from me, and right by the sidewalk at that. I love it. I pull at least ten a week out of that patch, and I don't check it every day... I'm sure I have missed many more than that. Then there are the ones by the goose/duck lawn, and the ones across the street from that. I found a large patch around the corner from there a few days ago... easily twenty in one square yard, and it hadn't rained in at least two weeks. I can't wait until it rains... as long as the temp doesn't go way down, I'll be pulling another decent haul out of the 'hood.
I'd post pics, but you've all seen subbs before, and I didn't take habitat shots because I don't wanna arouse more suspicion than I might already, by bending over in people's yards every few feet as I'm walking down the sidewalk.
