Wow man, landsnorkler, you have really contributed a extremely wonderful set of images here!!!!

I like the looks of the Chicken of the Woods that you photographed.. those are kinda yummy edibles I think.

You are a rather talented photographer, all around i think.. You have captured a good vibe into each of your images!

If you don't mind me asking.. what type of digital camera do you use? I want to get the exact same model, tommorrow. :sun:

cactu, you have done another great job with your identification help on this topic! It is great to have you around teaching people.. I am wondering something though.. How is it that you are able to relate to so much of the Mycoflora and Trees and stuff of the Hawaiian Islands, relating it so closely to what you are familiar with in Mexico? They seem, kind of far apart on the globe from one another.. I understand that both areas recieve a whole lot of rainfall, and are both tropical or sub-tropical enviroments, could you please expand on this question for us?

thank you i really love to id mushrooms, since i learn so much in the process , iam able to relate since many of the trees that are there are also here not all of course since , all Hawaiian island have a volcanic history and since is isolated of course they have endemic , flora ,and fauna, but for the destruction of habits for humans and the introduction of animals and plant to the island , if you look for example the first day , that someone bring cow to the island , was long ago for a pirate , captain , and well it change a lot the ecosystem , now many of the beautifully land scape the landsnorkelr show us was cut to cow farming i guess, this a dramatic thing for nature, i will tel you a secret , you all have more trouble that i do to understand mushrooms simple because i´m a biologist i know few thing you don´t about plant and animal, i spend mi life reading book of the subject , that in a first glimpse i did not image was mushrooms related, but as you know in my life all is mushrooms related, and i can also say this if you look in a different way all is mushrooms related in our life, .
so why i understand about the environment , because there are some rules in biology, that apply to any part of the world and physics is physics every where you go, also i have more knowledge of the botanical stuff of Hawaiian island , but know i see that mushrooms are good part of it , i too get amaze of how many species are there from many part of the world ,
in some of the mycoflora landsnorkelt is finding over there i can relate the species from Mexico , Australia, Europe, , some of the mushrooms are from this part of the world and why are there in an isolated island ,
but you know that for mushrooms there is no isolated place spores can travel the hole world to fall to the ground, so in a way all places are related, i guess before the earth was more isolated since people don´t travel to much but know any thing can be a spore carrier even bags and merchandise.
you put me a place on earth and i can guaranty i can relate in 5 days to Mexico , i´m kidding maybe 10 days in some places...
also evolution play crazy roles in this endeavour for example there is many examples of animal that exist in certain hemispheres and not in other , for example the raccoons exist in the north part of America only and in sudamerica no , but instead nature create the coati , very much alike a racoon but from the south , so example as this goes on an on , the re is a way that nature use to equilibrate things , or is possible that some design in nature are so successfully that nature explore all the possibilities , well This also happens in mushrooms but in a more different scale, for example you can see the picture of asaroe rubra for landsnorkel from the island the ones from me in Mexico Veracruz, and the one of undergrower from Australia you could see all are related but in a way different , clearly different species, , another example is psilocybe cyanescens and PS subaeruginosa in Australia , that if you look at it look like the same cyanescens that adapt to a different environment and so specially in a different way , many other example, so nature always create one way of another the probe creations, and that why some species can have many years in evolution with out changing to much example turtles , are like living fossil,
i really can´t explain why i can tide all the world together i guess is because one long ago all land was connected, in pangea territory, for instance island are very important in evolution since show us the isolated process of speciation or animal plants mushroom you name it, example Darwin's study´s in the Galapagos archipelagos , there Darwin could probe how a specie can adquire different structures by natural selection and more other teorys, than now are more complex , but it was easy to see how some bird can be different only because of the diet and how in many years from a single specie many evolutionate,
so excuse me if i get carry away about this subject for me nature is the god´s most perfect expression if we understand nature we understand god something pretty big, nature is not that easy ...but tell a few secret to us humans observers ...

all my best vibrations..

I eat these things for breakfast (orb weaver?):

Near trailhead:

Near the beach, about 2 miles in.

Beach:

DHARMA initiative outhouse(I took a shit up there. I always shit while tripping, strange):

We began hiking up this creek, the mushrooms began!!!:

I'll take a stab, collybia (tryin to figure these tropical fungi out):

This girl had lickable nipples:

Marasmius?:

Really tall bamboo:

rotten stink horn:

Crepidotus?:

This log was the motherload, solid fungi, never seen anything like it (coprinellus?):

?

?

coprinellus?:

Another toad, this one peed on me:

?

I like this one, holyfield's ear. (pretty sure you id'd these cactu):

growing from bamboo litter (they look like those chinese hats):

Waterfall we trekked to:

This whole hike was pretty isolated and cool:

Peace people!!!

:yesnod:aloha  hermano . what a nice day .
i know what you mean to eat  spider  for braksfast and copes. those spider are very commond here and copes. ha ha .
what  a great place ,
now to id  :
-I'll take a stab, collybia (tryin to figure these tropical fungi out):
actually i think that is a pluteus , i see a pink  gill inside, maybe, ...
-This girl had lickable nipples:
that may be a collybya.since is white spores and coneshaped.all collybya have white stems and hollow stem, not sure if this one does.
-Marasmius?:
if it is white spored could be marasmiellus since  gill are too spaced.
-Crepidotus?:
whoa that was a ball , open in two  next time i think those bruise grean  when open .
-This log was the motherload, solid fungi, never seen anything like it (coprinellus?):
good call they seem to have dark spores .
-?
trametes maxima is identical to it and coriolopsis polyzona the diference is that in trametes the  under surface(pores )are with minute teeth that make  hard to the touch and in coriolopsis is smoth.
-?
that look like a pin of innotus, or flavodum flavus.
-coprinellus?:
you will notice many white spored  minute mushrooms grow in logs, the big ones big spores not with clusters may ne lepiota, the small ones more coomon tyou can separate  for spaced gill marasmiellus , not spaced gill  and in tigh cluster collibya, not cluster but in big groups  as you past picture of coprinellus in log, well they can be  many micena, marasmius, the white spores only so your mushrooms is a good change to be marasmius, micena.
-Another toad, this one peed on me:
whoa  what a good picture the reflection in the eye of the tad is atonishings , increible,  that  is a bufo but not marinus maybe a local specie..
-?
i wonder what is it,  maybe a coprinus pin.
-I like this one, holyfield's ear. (pretty sure you id'd these cactu):
 yes is auricularia holyfiedensis ..
-growing from bamboo litter (they look like those chinese hats):
i guess is a micena .
-Waterfall we trekked to:
excellend
-This whole hike was pretty isolated and cool:
that is a beutifull place,
all  my best , today is the longest night , the soltisce of winter have begun ...........

Aloha. Undergrounder, there must have been fairies around. It was a solid flush of shrooms. Something else. This is my final day here. We leave tonight. Went jogging this morning back up to the pasture for some grand finale copelandia shots. Found some more!!! I guess the daily rains just keep em coming. Found cyanescens and the unknowns, which may actually be cyans, I'm just not very familiar with the growth stages of them, and how the appear throughout their life above ground (poop). On the one paddy I found, there were many stages of the mushrooms. Teenagers, senior citizen, dying, and dead. I'm printing the senior citizen, and one of the teenagers, which could be the unknown species. I'll leave the copemasters (cactu, gg, wowitch, anybody else?) to decide. It may be worth sending spores to Workman. I also found some other type of panaeolus I havn't seen yet. Looks sort of like sphinctrinus or something, but not sure, because there's not much of a toothy margin.

I'm going to head back over to the subb spot also, as I found a lone freshy subb growing in a field on my way back from copeville.

Cactu, hope you have a magical night tonight brother!!! You have helped me and inspired me in so many ways. I can't thank you enough.

GG, the camera I use is an Olympus Stylus 740. It's very nice, but I don't really like the viewfinder. It only has a digital viewfinder and nothing you can view through non-digitally, which can make it tough when the glare is bad. It takes damn good close-ups though. Sometimes landscapes can be a bit blurry, but all in all it is a decent camera. If you could get one with a digital and non-digital view finder that would be key.

Pics:
The magic pasture:

some coprinus:

possible unknown copes:

copelandia cyanescens:

These were all on same cow pie:

another cyan:

dying:

This is where I found em:

Unknown panaeolus:

Lone field panaeolus, maybe very white subb:

field I found it in:

printing copes:

stem shot:

blueing beginning on cap:

Peace!!!

Beautiful!!! I saw two turtles while snorkeling, but didn't see any on land. What was it doing up there, laying eggs? Arn't the sunsets dope!!! Hope your trip is going well. You'll find some copes. Look in fields that arn't overgrazed, and that don't recieve too much sun.

Peace.

Oh man.. I saw a turtle while spearfishing, it was at least twice as big as that one pictured. It's hard to tell the scale but it was kind of scary lol, coming upon something that big in murky water. So far I've just been snorkling and hanging out at the beach every day, no terrain for mushrooms. The trip is going great, going to Hana for sure in the morning. I hope your trip was unforgettable, I'm sure it was. You've definately contributed some amazing shit in just a few days.

Woah, you went spearfishing? You crazy Idahoan fuckers. Did you get anything? I saw some locals going out and harpoon (the spear gun thing) fishing. I wanted to go fishing so bad, but there wasn't enough time. I guess you can get pompano, jacks, tuna, and probably other things. Sounds fuckin tasty. Just looked up Hana, it sounds tight. What side of the island is it on? I'd recommend cope hunting on the east side, as it's much wetter. Peace mang.

Howdy. Just got back to Mantana yesterday. It's dumping snow here. Anyway. After going to the magic pasture yesterday, I had to stop back by the subb spot. There were some new subbs, and actually some matured fully in 5 days. Guess that makes sense.

View from the top of the hill

I only found four copes, but thats just fine. There were hundreds and hundreds of pins coming up, a few days later and I would have filled up my backpack lol. Anyways, im a happy howlie. Yea spearfishing is alot harder than it looks.. I was using a hawaiin sling, got one trigger fish then gave up. I hear my house looks like that also, 6 inches of snow. Maybe I'll stay and be a bum. lol.

Excellent!!! I'm fuckin happy for you man. That looks like a sweet spot. Was it sketchy at all, or did you have permission. I'd say 4 fresh ones should be decent. But fuckin deffinitely go back and get more. That's great. I'm sittin here back in Mantana, and I can feel what it's like to be in that field. Fuck yeah!!! Don't wait t00 long for them to mature though. They grow real quick in that tropical climate. You'll love unlocking the magic down there, it's great. Well shit, now I feel like a little girl, because I didn't go spearfishing, and my Northern homie did. I gotta step it up for Montana. Maybe I'll go spear hunting for mountain lion or something, and post pics of the hunt. Do it all the time, anyway.

Well, I'm just happy to here that your trip is going well too. And I'm super stoked you got your copes!!! Going skiing tomorrow, Bridger Bowl got a measly 9 inches of cream, but that's better than nothin.
Peace!!!

Still can't figure out what those more yellowish copes are. The only pics I can find of the copelandias are from mushroom john, and they are fairly shitty pics (no offense john).

It was like a 3 hour drive to that spot, and I leave in like 2 days, someone else can pick them. I'm on the west shore and Hana is on the eastern shore. Nah it wasnt sketchy, its a public place but once you get up on the hill nobody can see you... and nobody else was there, just one girl running.. or picking, idk. It was all open so no barbed wire to jump.

I was told triggerfish are edible, but it was spewing blood and I was out a good 200 yards from shore alone, I left it there and swam back fast as fuck, human chum line lol. Spearhunt cougars, now thats a sport.
