why fuck amsterdam? the city wasn't at fault: this is a political decision that is not based on facts and rational thinking.
i'd rather say fuck the tourists: mostly brits, as one report said. out of about 140 bad trips that ended in the ER only 20 or so were by locals, the lion share of freak outs were by dumb ass tourists.

Fortunately the materials needed to grow your own are more or less easily found. Being in ths US, I guess this doesn't change anything for me. The world has gone mad. Amsterdam is not immune.

Shrooms can be dangerous. Is this not news?
If people aren't educated on what can happen if they eat shrooms then things can go very wrong. If the shrooms are easilly available then people will be able to get them without the proper knowledge of 'safe' usage.

God damn it. I was there two days for the sole purpose of buying some. I even talked to the owner of one shop, jokingly saying that 'when the ban comes I'll have to stock up.'
I'm sad. I'm so stocking up.

Well I guess it would be better to say "fuck ignorant tourists" The thing even said the people who hurt themselves did it despite warnings. So why should everyone else get punished? Whats dumb though is that people die/vomit from alcohol but they wouldn't even dare ban that (Well they did but it didn't work too well)
Well I guess the only difference now is that you can't buy em in a store.

One person making a bad decision while tripping ruins it for everyone? People kill themselves all the time, for all sorts of reasons. I fail to see what the big deal is, honestly, but I suppose to people who have in interest in maintaining psychological control of their population outlawing shrooms is a great step in the interest of "protecting society from themselves."
Me...not a fan of that train of thought, obviously. But whatever. I don't care that much because I already live in a country that has walked down that narrow avenue of thought. Still hasn't stopped me from enjoying a plant I consider sacred and I guarantee a ban on mushrooms in the Netherlands won't have much effect on people who still have a desire to use them. Laws crack me up. People who want to believe in the illusion of control even more.

I thought they were just gonna put a 3 day waiting period for buying them... This sucks for the responsible people who are well educated with psychedelics... Its unfortunate that some girl killed herself, but does that mean everyone else should suffer?

Good, these people are usually the ones with more experience/education on the matter. I think they will be more likely to use responsibly.

You know, you may be right about that. Banning them takes mushrooms out of mainstream consumption and it's clear that most everyday, mainstream people lack intelligence. I know I did a ton of magic mushroom research before I ventured to use them myself. The law didn't even enter my mind.
I disagree on principle with the ban, but it might have the unintended result of pushing mushrooms only into the hands of people who will use them responsibly, instead of just gobbling them down without thinking twice and with no information. What pisses me off is that now that they are an item of the underworld...well, there's a whole bunch of crap that comes attached to that aspect of reality.

They sell half a million doses a year the saftey record is much better than alcohol or tobacco. The justice minister overstepped 1 in ten thousand being admitted to emergencry rooms isn't reason for a ban. Alsohol and mixing seem partly to blame. The girl was underage and had other problems. Bad decision.

Its a good thing to take it out of the hands of impulse use, but there are lots of ways to do that without banning it. The problem for me is that the onus of responsibility is always upon society, its on everyone else's shoulders, rather then the one person it should be with, which is all of us as individuals.

I don't like being banned from substances but I think it can be a good thing to have those bans. I consider myself fairly responsible but I do, however, know many peole who do not do their due dilligence on substances and who partake in dangerous behavior while on them.
Honestly, I'm glad certain harder drugs aren't legal. It limits people's intake and it generally pushes the use of the drug onto private property where members of the public are less likely to be affected by those substances/the people taking those substances.

If mushrooms are banned, that just means you'll have to buy them from shady underground dealers, instead of the nice friendly shopkeepers. And while you're picking up some shrooms, you can score some heroin!

There's plenty of places to get shrooms rather than from shady dealers. Plenty of non-shady dealers sell shrooms. Is it really that important to do shrooms in Amsterdam anyway? The main attraction is marijuana. I bet a very smaller percentage of folks eat mushrooms when they go to A-dam.
