How many hours of light is optimal for fruiting?

Hey shroomers,
My cakes and casing both get 18-24 hours of light a day. My light bulb is a 7 watt night light bulb, its perfect for mushrooms because it doesnt put out any heat or a bright light that may dry out the cake/casing.
I was wondering how many hours in optimal to beginn pinning/fruiting? Is 24 hours a bad thing?
Thanks Fd

Yes,they can be in a completely opaque container and only get light when you fan/air exchange them. So there really is no certain amount. I asked this question last week.

While light is not all that much, as the Neglect tek demonstrates, Mycotek is on the money. How much light does nature give them? 12/12 is about as close as you can get to mother natures natural system. The closer you can mimic nature, the better the shrooms usualy are. Outdoor ones are usualy hearty & healthy. SixTango

The captain is right. If you can see the mycelium when you check on it, then it is getting all the light it needs to pin. You don't need 12 hours of light and it is not anymore benificial.

I used to give 12/12 but found that because the fruiting chambers are in the basement in an enclosed area that the heat was raising the temps in the fruiting chambers a bit more than my liking. I initiated a 2/22 and its been working excellent.

I`ve been giving about 5-6 hours light, my problem is that as soon as I cover the casings up again to mycelium grows. my temperatures are at about 20-25 and still the mycelium grows like crasy, I`m growin PR so as you can imagine this is a problem. The damn mycelium loves the coir too much. I guess I`ll have to take a fork to it pretty soon.

According to TMC during primordia and cropping they call for 12-16 hours of light a day. So I've always just ran 14 on and 10 off.

I have always used the 12\12 method with great results. I have read that mushrooms do need blue light to grow. Anyone ever here of this?

my mycelium grew faster under 24 hours light,, but i guess fruiting may be different,, maybe switch to a 16-8 for fruiting.

They call for natural light in a blue spectra. A grow lux light from home depot works perfect. They sell them in 12", 18", 24" and 48". I have 2 48" shop lights with 4 48" bulbs. In all honesty though unless you are growing large amounts (and I do mean LARGE) it won't make a single bit of difference.
