After peyote buttons have been harvested, do they make new buttons?

If you cut the buttons off correctly so it didnt damage the roots or cause the roots to rot they will form new buttons.

correctly meaning there are still healthly aerioles for pups to sprout. cut above the root. cut at the root then you have a slowing dieing root.

yeah you need to cut at an angle pretty much, start a little high on one side and go down but dont cut to far down. or do the complete opposite.

What he said, exactly ! The loph on the top of the pic was recently cut and used as a scion. The pic is the root with 2 new buttons already sprouting. When you cut a loph like this, the offsets (pups) that sprout from the root will grow rather quickly until they get close to the size of the already harvested button, just because they already have a well-established root system -- OTP.

will the potency still be the same between the slow original and the new fast pup?

Most likely, as this is how Native Americans grow them. Not from seed, but by cutting off most of the 'button' when it is mature, and leaving the root to offset and mature once again - OTP.
