As someone who almost constantly dubs trance, hearing someone call my music techno really pisses me off. The sad part is is that the unenlightened seem to have trouble grasping the true feeling behind the music.

"What the fuck is this techno shit? All it does it go 'dub dub dub' over and over again."

"It's trance, you god-damned nimrod, and if you'd actually fucking listen instead of hear, you'd realize just how much is actually going on in this mix."

People who start hating on music before they even actually LISTEN to it piss me off.

i think of electronic music as a method not a style
u could say techno is a form of electronic music, not the other way around
like how rock is a form of guitar music

I was actually one of those people that though it was all the same. I had no idea the difference because to me it sounds the same. When I was in college however I made alot of friends who were into it and I realized how broad the genre was. I actually had one of them explain the difference and it made sense.

It's all about being educated though, because if you're not really into that type of music then all you're going to hear is techno.

Get over it.... If everybody calls electronic music techno, then thats the new definition of techno.

I hear people refer to chopin, or verdi as classical and I know its not, but thats the mainstream definition so Im not a dick, I let them call it that. Music from the romantic and baroque eras are referred to as classical, even if they are not from that era.

I know the difference between country and bluegrass, techno and DnB, romantic and classical. But I see no need to be a snobbish elitist if somebody uses a different definition of the word. Music is about free expression, not fascist labels.
