Welcome to the amazing phenomena God calls weather! I'm guessing you may have a minor leak in your terrarium, but really... mushrooms DO grow in nature, and this is how nature acts. So don't freak and have fun, and please do find the "Way"... hehe.ootw.

You should have no problems finding a humidifier. Try looking for an ultrasonic model, they are much better. Where do you live?

I don't live in the US, but i have tried all the normal places one would expect to get an ultra sonic humidifier, but all I can find is the evaporative kind . Also, I am using saran wrap on top of the terrarium, but it is taped down well, and there are no visible holes that I can see, and I have replaced it a couple of times. I am just trying to find time to go to the hardware store to get some plexi-glass to put on top .Thanks jC

don't worry about this at all. humidity meters are famously inaccurate. also, screw the humidifier. perlite alone is just fine. as long as there is decent condensation on the walls of your tank, you'll be fine. if you're really paranoid, just give the sides a few sprays from a spray bottle. or maybe your perlite isn't wet enough, or maybe it is actually too soaked for it to work properly. perlite is full of little pores, it works because when it is saturated but not below the actual water level it in effect has a tremendous surface area from which water can evaporate. it's kinda difficult to explain. it's also possible that the bubbler is letting humidity out along with the air, which i kinda doubt but wouldn't dismiss. here's what i'd do: take the perlite, put it all in a big bowl and put some a bunch of water in. mix it around. using some mesh or just tilting it into the sink, drain the water out until there is no more loose water. the perlite will then be holding the correct amoutn of water. take out the bubbler, put the perlite back in the tank, put the cakes back on it, close it, and fan it every 12 or so hours. this will almost certainly work.[This message has been edited by n8 (edited February 13, 2000).]

Yeah, listen to n8. Unless you're willing to pay a pretty penny for a hydrometer, most are cheap. And the cheap ones on average only read up to 80% humidity. I've never walked into a WalMart and say a humidity meter that would go up to, let alone be accurate at 95-100% humidity.
