Compost help please
    #739728 - 07/11/02 03:02 PM (21 years, 8 months ago)

if i was to take a 5gallon tub, fill it half way with compost and spawn it with some puerto rican cakes, after it being fully colonized, can i just fruit it directly in the tub?
by fruiting directly from the tub i mean can i make a clear lid out of plexi glass so itll recieve some light and start to hand-mist and to hand-fan the cake daily?
Thanks for any help in advance.
-Victor

Yes, your idea will work. But, in my opinion, it is always better to case your spawned manure or compost. Personally, I use the horse poo tek, which involves a casing layer of coir. Are you using store bought compost, or one of the vendor compost mixes? If you are using store bought compost, don't expect great results. If you have any other questions post them or pm me. Hope this helps.

My results with store bought composted manure were nowhere near as good as the results with horse poo. The store bought compost was slow to spawn, and then the amount and size of the fruits were not even close to those grown on horse poo. This is just my opinion, and there are some recent posts that say otherwise.

Know any places where I can get horse poo? I was considering ordering some from Sporelab(http://www.sporelab.com/blue.htm). Would this be good for outdoor cultivation, like Moes Outdoor Tek?

Look in the phone book for local horse stables, that's where I get mine. They are more than happy to give me as much as I want. Tell them you want to use it for your garden. Hope this helps.
