mycobags revisited

Whats up. Yesterday I started to try mycobags again. I previously had a brazil bag going and it is almost 100% cake but i see small orange/red patches on the side, so I think it might be contaminated.

So..

on to 3 brand new fresh mycobags. I sterilized myself totally with isopropyl alcohol and took an ice chest and wiped it down totally outside and in with the alcohol. All the bags were cleaned and the syringe was burned to red hot and cooled before innoculating each bag, after i injected the spores i recleaned the injector site with alcohol and also washed my hands with it a few times during the whole process. I was being very wary of any contamination possiblity, which is why I used the ice chest this time for incubation because I figure my brazil bag got contaminated from the air in my closet. I put a sterilized digital thermometer in the ice chest and closed it up. Now I am pretty sure I took every step possible to keep everything sterile.

Do you think I missed anything?

I plan to wash hands with alcohol every time I touch the ice chest and I plan to only open the chest once a day for air exchange and tempature check. I am not going to even touch the bags at all until 20 days to future insure no contamination by me.

What do you guys think of my setup?

those spots are just metabolites, not contam. Mine do that from time to time. When those metabolites suck back up into the substrate, you'll see fruits soon.

instead of relying on washed hands, which never come clean, you should invest in a 7 dollar box of nitrile gloves. They save the day. Besides, washing your hands in alcohol constantly makes them dry and crack, and peel, which harbors more porous places for contams to live, that won't die by being washed with soap... I don't care who you are, u cannot scrub your hands enough to get rid of even 40% of whats on them.

i'm not sure if the bags you used have self healing injection ports, but if not you shouldbe using hot glue or possibly even micropore tape to keep contams out. your contam shouldn't have been from the air in your closet because mycobags have filter patches that provide clean fae.

jeetered: wow its great to hear that my Brazilian is not contaminated! It also has some orange spot on the top too. But you say this is normal, thats great news. I will definitly get these gloves you reccommended, thanks for the help. I will try to get a picture of the bag close up and send it to you so you can take a look.

also the second picture you posted didn't show up, can you upload it again?

xhooliganx: yes all my bags have the self healing injector sites. So that filter patch really keeps contams out, I definitly think that jeetered is right then and that the spots I am seeing are just metabolites. Awesome that means I need to get on building a fruiting chamber :smile: !

hmm. i am still concerned about my brazilian mycobag, it has a few peach/orange patches does this still sound like metabolites??
