Mycobags Revisited - Data Summary with Pictures!
    #2673420 - 05/13/04 02:07 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

This post will attempt to clear up some of the confusion regarding Mycobags, specifically, sealed plastic bags filled with sterilized mushroom substrates designed for the direct injection of spores or mycelium of certain kinds of mushrooms.

Initially I am going to focus on mining the Shroomery search feature for information regarding the grain based mycobag and how it performs when used to grow Psilocybe cubensis. Later I will try to expand this thread to cover other species and types of mycobags. I should also say that the use of mycobags to grow cubensis is not condoned or encouraged by http://mycobag.com or most other vendors of similar type products.

Nice post. I was actually getting ready to do a search before I saw this post, very helpful considering I just order a Mycobag a few days ago.

common questions.

Has anyone tried the method that was used with the EZ Grow kit that homestead use to sell? Instead of letting the mushrooms grow out of the bag, break the fully cultured grain into smaller pieces and mix with dung compost. It seems the way that all the methods above only bring forth low quantities of shrooms. With the tek use from the EZ Grow it has given me 3 dried ounces, much more than the above projects. Any comments or anyone use this method I'm talking about? You know just to get mor out of your mycobags.

Thats spawning to a bulk substrate. Of course using dung will give you a bigger harvest than just a plain mycobag.

How does fruiting work in they mycrobags? Is there no air exchange? How can you have multiple flushes in the bags without opening the bag and harvesting?

The patch on the top is for air and gas exchange, and multiple flushes could be achieved by cliping the bag at the top with a clothes pin or two. I'm pretty sure the mushroom can go through all cycles in those little bags.

They can live in the bag... and they'll do just fine. Oddly, they seem to get enough air too.

Spawning to bulk can work... but it isn't recomended for newbies who spent $$$ on their bags.

Most newbies just want shrooms... not a ton of bulk.

That, and a newbie is more likely to fail if they spawn.

If you fruit in the bag, it is harder to fuck up.

this is a very informative post, but do you have the amount of cc's of spores you used per bag?

What? I thought 2004 was still in.

I guess it's still a workable concept, if you're incredibly lazy that is. I myself am guilty to some of these horrible practises.
