Possibly A Gym? If not, what?

I found these on a down log in the mountain wilderness today. SE USA. Just the two of them.
Caps feel slightly suedish to me. I thought I had found a Bolete based on look/feel of cap. Thick Cap. About 3 inches across. Last pic shows broken cap.

My roommate said the smell was reminiscent of glue?

THe gills are attached.
I tore the stem apart for a pic....

I just got them home and under glass so hopefully I can report back on spore color tomorrow.

Those look like gyms to me. Spore print will confirm, but I'd say you got em.

if it was in a log and spores are rusty brown i guees why not be a gimnopilus , howoever it doesn´t lookk as the actives, but i hope i´m wrong .....

Were they really bitter? Try moistening the cap and checking for a slimy texture, however I don't think they are Pholiota.
Another genus which can look an awful lot like gyms is Tricholomopsis... they are easy enough to rule out as their spores are white.

I notice a hint of green, but its no more evident in real life than in the third photo of the caps. Anyone else see it?

Now, how to figure out which species of gym it is?

I got out the ruler. Large cap is 3.25" at widest point.

Personally i'd say the sporeprint looks more like that of a gallerina, the gymnopilus i've found have a more neon orange color sporeprint.
