Not fully colonized cakes in blender?

Hey,
I read a post somewhere on here that you can put not fully colonized cakes in a blender and case them. How can this be done withought getting the uncolonized part of the cake in your casing? Wouldn't contams just begin to grow from the un-colonized part? Sorry if i missed something i just need someone to clear this up for me.
Thanks all Fd

umm....no offense but I wouldn't bother with uncolonized jars... I know you probably could pull it off, but why bother? I think I remember you posting about jars that stopped growing on the bottom? Maybe if you have a HEPA filter...and glove box you could pull out only the colonized part. If it hasn't been colonized theres probably a reason...aka too much water or something. Just my 2 cents.

If you are casing, you are adding non-colonized nutrient material, having some of it come from an incompete jar shouldn't matter if it is contam free at the time of birthing.

Actually.. I throw 80% colonized cakes in the blender, 4 at a time and dump it all in a pan, slap some tinfoil on top, poke some holes in it, and I end up with a brick like block of mycelium in about 5 days, without fail.
Just be sure NOT to open it up for at least 3 days. NO PEEKING...

If a jar has a minor contamination but good growth, let the jar colonize as much as possible, then birth it. Remove the contaminated substrate with a knife, wash the whole cake off under cold running water, and use the blender to break it up. Then put the substrate into a clean jar to re-colonize. With 99% mycelium and maybe 1% contaminant, the aggressive, competitive mycelium devours the tiny contamination areas, and is 100% colonized in about 5 days. My success rate is about 80% (4 out of 5).
This works best against competitor moulds (the smelly non-white growths). It doesn't seem to work at all against bacterial infection (the smelly, uncolonized substrate). I have no experience with this method and competitor yeasts. The yeast smell is so revolting, I toss the whole jar.
If your jars are contaminated because they are too wet, even the blender may not work.

Umm.. don't fuck with contamination... unless you know for sure it is no a pathogen... even then, one contam can open doors for others by weaking the mycelium...
I don't think it's been quite pushed on people enough that if a jar is contaminated... throwing it out is always the best policy.
