Long-term posting in this forum is in direct opposition to spiritual advancement
    #7344336 -

First off, let me say that the Shroomery (and P&S in particular) has done a lot for me. Its put me in touch with several schools of thought and works of thinkers which I would have otherwise not come across, at least not so soon or so easily. It is in this way a fantastic resourse.

But no more. Once one has absorbed certain ideals and philosophies, I think it becomes clear that one has to move on. There are maybe four or five posters here that I have the uptmost respect for. But that utmost respect is not without its criticism. Hanging round an internet forum, posting sometimes-wisdom, sometimes-nonsense-for-fun, sometimes-nonsense, is hardly the stuff of an enlightened existence. I doubt that this shroomery forum is compatable with any of the ideal existences that are discussed and revered here.

Of course, striving for "enlightenment" or complete self-betterence is for 99.99% of us an ultimately futile task. Im sure I will give up the ghost soon enough, but surely that striving for that excellence, striving for that perfection is the most important thing, even if it is momentary. And that is what leads me to the topic of this post.

So do you (even partly) agree, or am I an arrogant cunt who hasnt the foggiest what's really going on in our universe?

I suppose it depends on your personal definition of "enlightenment."

IMO, enlightenment is about fully accepting the apparent nature of reality, and then figuring out how to enjoy it as much as possible.  If your enjoyment is enhanced by posting nonsense and/or wisdom on an internet forum, then this activity would be compatible with an "enlightened existence."  If not, then why bother?

To each one's own. I have no concept of which standards you are utilizing in comparison with this forum in order to arrive at this conclusion, and I've been here for too long. :smirk:

I'm also curious as to how you've determined that once one has absorbed certain thoughts, that one must move on. It simply sounds to be a question of that which one is seeking. Clearly not all paths provide opportunity for that which is sought, but I'm not sure why one's conclusions thereby carry over for everyone else as well. :what:

A teacher absorbs certain ideals and philosophies, yet they don't necessarily move on, as their intention lies not with simple absorption. Perhaps there are others that benefit from that which they have learned, perhaps they exist in a state of continuous learning, as interacting and exchanging perspectives and ideas with others is an entirely new experience in every moment. Who knows, everyone is different, and you are proposing an absurd absolute.

It is largely through the framework of this forum that I have personally cultivated my understanding and perspective of reality, as well as my ability to express and convey that understanding and perspective. My time and energy is no longer invested into this forum as it once was, and I anticipate that this is a trend that is likely to continue. It has nothing to do with what I have absorbed and of moving on, or of this forum being in direct opposition to my "spiritual advancement". There is only twenty-three hours and fifty-six minutes to a day (:hehehe:), and my priorities have changed as I've found what I've been looking for. :heartpump: It is simply a question of roles that one chooses to play, for oneself and for others.

Your post reminds me of a story Ram Dass told, of when him, Timothy Leary, and Ralph Metzner really got involved in LSD, which led to a spiritual path for them. At first, the felt the utter urgency of attaining enlightenment. There was nothing else worthy of doing. Later, Ram Dass understood that there was no urgency, because There was nothing else you could do. You were on the path no matter what you were doing. It's all bhakti yoga, it's all devotional. Everything is "for the glory of god", or the expression of the universe, however you want to state it.

I think really, to leave out all the stories and teachings, it's just a matter of integrating the path into your regular everyday life. Then, there is no inner conflict, and everything is getting done, and you are doing nothing.

But no more.

I'm afraid I have to call bullshit here.:poop: If you were done here there would be no post pontificating on the fact that it's unenlightened to be a long time poster here.:rofl2:

I will be enlighten in just a few more posts here, so you can see that the way of attainment is going to be different for everybody.

But of course I do "partly" agree. :monkeydance:

If anyone tried to take any of that seriously then I pity your soul. It was a drunken ramble, complete gibberish, Id had about 9 pints and had just returned from the pub. But as has been pointed out, it wasnt much more stupid than most of the bollocks that people post here. I keep trying to leave but I keep coming back..

Look familiar? Trying to talk ones way out of here is futile in my experience. When you are truly done there will most likely be no goodbyes.

Posting here is not nearly as spiritual as getting tanked night after night on Guinness.

I agree with all the replies, except 2sky, yer being facetious.

I guess what I was saying was not meant to be some general "absolute" sweeping observation (which are almost always wrong IMO) but an observation on what is true in my life, now. Which is ultimately all that matters anyway.

Thanks for all the fish.

One last thing...

Long-term posting in this forum is in direct opposition to spiritual advancement

what is in direct opposition to the flow is attachment and identification with thoughts, emotions, the external world, etc.  if you are too attached and move in opposition to the flow, forums will probably be a hinderance.  following oneself into the center of being is spiritual advancement, there is not only one way to attain this.  there are multiple paths leading inwards, and connecting with people is one.

although i do find the computer stimulating to the mind at times, it doesn't do so good for my attachment so breaks are good :blazed:

that's how it was for me. as some of you may remember, i used to post here. eventually i came to the point where i began to feel as if this board was a waste of my time and i gradually posted less and less until one day i just dissappeared. it's funny, i check this board for the first time in how long and i see this thread. anyway, i'm just posting this to finally say goodbye, since i no longer feel as if it would be premature.

maybe i will return someday.

a futile task?

of course you see futility if you look for completion of objects, or final summations - these are accountant's and consumers' concepts.

BUT even if you could consume life, where would you put it?

instead you are enmeshed with life - there is no place for futility - it is a continuous stretch of the mind to see what is hapenning, how it continues to work, and what we can do to improve humanity.

you are life, a facet of it, just a follicle and an eye, a peeping voice and an ear, a hand and a dream.

It is my opinion that to be a member of an intelligent internet community is to be a part of the very forefront of human progress. This form of community and interaction is so new and represents a spectacular paradigm shift in human society! It did not exist when over 99% of the people whose wisdom we read about lived! Our generation is the absolute rock bottom first to live in this new world.

Once one has absorbed certain ideals and philosophies, I think it becomes clear that one has to move on.

Once one has seen Albuquerque, there's no point going on vacation in Europe any more. It's all the same dirt, people, and buildings everywhere on Earth.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.
