hmmmm...yep, looks like a little bit of cobweb mold...

dont worry though, cobweb mold in brf jars isnt very strong. ive had jars with cobweb mold and they turned out just fine.

the mycelium should just grow right over it; thats what mine did, but...

looks like you have some orange mold/wet spot there. if so, toss the jars. can you get a closer pic?

I'm not exactly a photographer obviously. I am guessing that the top right one is the one in trouble. I really wasn't all that happy with the consistency of the substrate but these are only 6 days old. I'm thinking about scrapping the whole lot and trying again. Thanks for any help offered.

If you had "cobweb mold" growing on a PF cake, you either experience a somewhat severe anomaly or mistook mycelium as cobweb. The latter is far more likely; cobweb isn't particularly weak, per say, but it does have specific tastes, including lurking just at the top of a contaminated substance, and not permeating down. I often see such conclusions being made on the contamination forums, mostly by those who know the symptoms of cobweb but have never seen it in-person.

Anyhow, long story short, your PF cake would have to overcome some pretty fucked-up odds to eat *over* already-sporulating cobweb. It's possible, but this to me appears to be some type of weakly-spread mold mycelium, or just whispy growth particular to the strain/inoculation.

Your biggest clue will not be diagnosing different molds, but instead using your easiest ID asset; known mycelium. It's obvious you have at least patches of mycelium growing; if you notice significant changes in the cake in areas not covered by healthy mycelium, it'll be a quick, and giveaway sign that your sterile culture is wanting.

By the way, the second set of pictures, far left appears almost certainly to be infected with an unknown mold.

I think that maybe these are getting a little better. These were knocked up Jul-31 and none of the bad looking spots have grown actually they have gotten to be smaller as the mycelium spreads if that is in fact that what is growing there. I used a TEK that called for what seems now like too much water. I also may have had too much water in the PC and had a little splash I was just wondering if I should scrap the whole lot. I have 6 more that I started a couple days ago and I don't want these things just getting funky for no reason any help?

Wow, forget about cobweb and listen to CaptainLinger - you've got some serious bacteria going on in there. Review your sterilization techniques, and I'd probably toss those jars (or throw them in an outdoor patch by sorting out just the good stuff with a spoon - sometimes you'll be surprised by that outdoor patch that you don't spend much time on and don't really care about because it was already considered as a waste).

I used some left over h.poo and straw, didn't bother to pasteurize, and then tossed it in my compost heap. There are a bunch of outdoor teks out there that are much more 'exact'. Moe's outdoor growing tek is pretty simple (http://www.shroomery.org/8494/Moes-Outdoor-Growing-Tek). Stoned_Myconaut's outdoor tek is a little more refined than Moe's as well, you might want to give that a try (http://www.shroomery.org/9371/Stoned_Myconauts-Outdoor-Grow-Tek-Southern-Style).
You basically just have to make sure that you have some food for that mycelium and some moisture, and keep it going best you can until the conditions outside are good for fruiting (Sept.-Oct., unless you devise some outdoor cold shocking system - I've been considering throwing some saran wrap over the cased substrate and then ice on top of this plastic wrap, and then a meat thermometer to check the substrate temp, making sure it gets down below 70 and then maintains around 70 for as long as you can).
Best of luck to you. Hopefully you can salvage some from your previous efforts (I was really disappointed until I got a couple outdoor monsters I wasn't expecting :eek:)
