Got my Concealed Handgun License

About a month and a half ago I applied for my CHL. I took documentation of completing a certified safety and shooting course, proving I'm proficient in handgun handling. I had an interview with the county sheriff and passed the background check. Now I'm legal to pack heat.

My dad has one, I want to get one sometime in the future. I have delt with too many crazy people in the last 6 years or so, on top of it these days it is good to have a gun handy at all times.

Nice... I want to get my concealed carry permit soon. I guess I'd be more motivated to if I were allowed to carry on my campus, but since I can't carry there legally and that's where I spend most of my time, it wouldn't do much good. In the mean time it will be like shooting fish in a barrel for the crazies though. Sigh... Can't even protect myself.

It's BS that we have to ask permission to carry from the government that is supposed to protect unalienable right to bear arms.

Also, are there any special rules you have to abide by when you carry it? Like can you start waving it around nonchalantly and stuff?
Does it have to be concealed?

I think as long as you have no felonies, or something like that.
Trust me, my ex girlfriend had brothers and cousins that were gangsters, and some of the peesp I know that are in prison, drug dealers...and about the same.

That is horse shit my friend. You'd think that since the massacre at Virginia Tech they'd lighten up the restrictions on letting licensed background check passed people protect the rest of the sorry assholes on campus...

Edit to add: If there had been many CHL licensed students or faculty at Virginia Tech the massacre would have been much less bloody because the mad man would have been killed quickly.

Crow, I don't think it would matter if they knew I posted on the Shroomery. 1st Amendment and all. But if they know about drug use on the other hand, that is bad. You need a fairly clean record. I have a couple misdemeanors from a few years ago, an open container and a public urination. It didn't seem to matter.

Yes, you can not wave your gun around. That's called brandishing and is a serious crime. It has to stay concealed.

Depending on what state you live in it's a crime if anyone can even tell if you are carrying a concealed firearm, even when you have a CCW (that's VA's term). What it means is if you have a concealed handgun in a holster and someone can tell you are carrying it (they call it printing if it can be seen as a bulge under your shirt), you can get in trouble.

Just be careful and know the restrictions and PRACTICE as much as you can if you are going to be carrying often. What good is a tool if you don't know how to use it.

It's amazing though, because from what I'm reading Virginia allows open carrying of a firearm even if you don't have a CCW. :eek:

Time to get a get a holster for my Kimber Tactical Pro II and start showing it off around the grocery store. :rofl:

Basically, if I'm justified in brandishing my weapon, I'm justified in shooting in in self defense. I won't draw on someone without immediately and instantly shooting them. You give up some rights with a CHL. You can not pick a fight, and do your best to walk away even if humiliated. Cops don't usually look kindly on a self defense shooting, you better really be in a life threatening situation.
