setting up a martha
    #7246173 -

ive had great success with all my cake grows but ive never actually done any casing. im not to worried about failing because i am a very careful person and well theres all the info in the world on it in here. ive decided to start my first casing/bulk grow and build a martha. ive looked through this site a million times and have already found all the info on this but i was wondering if anyone had any pointers for me.

get a real martha brand martha from Kmart or make sure it is exactly the same material and not anything that is breathable or anything of the sort..  Tape up the small vent holes, have the coolmist run all the time outside the martha.  By running outside it pumps fresh air in with the humidity thus making it self sufficient. If you dont install a drain at the bottom (which I have yet to do) get a cheap turkey baster to keep water from pooling too much on the bottom, standing water is a breeding ground for bacteria.  You will only need to run your ultrasonic a few minutes at a time a few times a day.  If your going bulk I hope your going with horse poo..

as far as running a cool mist 24/7 you are going to need to find that out for your self, if i run mine for 1 hour straight i have a pool in it, also it is different when you get it full of casings too. i set mine up dry then filled it turned it on and watched TV for a few hours, again i came back to a pool.

15 min cycle timers are your friend, cvs has them for 5-6 dollars

just make sure you get good shelving, i went ghetto and cheep on my first shelving and i ended up throwing it out and getting good stuff, a bunch of bulk casings weights a bit

my Martha did me good for 1-1/2 years :-))))))

now i switched to a few greenhouses

GOOD LUCK :-)))

don't buy a martha brand martha. get yourself one of the 4-tier green houses on ebay. they come with a good shelfing setup. you can get em for about 40$ shipped

Agreed. Those greenhouses work great with a coolmist on a cycle timer in the bottom. Keep it simple and effective!

thank you all for all the advice, i already have the actual martha from k-mart and am currently looking for some good shelving. i looked up those greenhouses and i gotta say i wish i would have found those first. im going to be using horse or cow manure, is there a difference between the two?

as far as i know, their diet, primarily. they're both a "bovine" type manure, in the grand scheme of things.

cow I think you will have to add some straw to as it is alot more runny in consistency than that of horse manure.. Horse poo is the ultimate in subs that is unless you engineer your own subs like Monstermitch or Wronguy or others..

I'm more into the engineering of my own compost for my substrates, close enough, heh.

well depending on how long ago you bought it you can return it. unless you already started cutting holes in it. maybe you still could even with holes. good shelving for marthas are going to cost more than your martha or the green house
