My Calico Cat drools when I scratch her neck or back...
    #7241812 -

I have five cats. Three Ferrell ones.....a Calico....and one that this weird eccentric Austin women bred trying to recreate an extinct cat from chine (apparently all the inbreeding she's done has caused this cat to have six toes/claws...that allow it to hold things).

Anyways...when I pet my Calico she drools on me every once in awhile. Is this something that all Calico's do or is it just isolated to this one cat?

how could you possibly conclude that it is not a calico thing. one of your cats is a calico and the other two are a product of the calico....based on my understanding.

i have co-existed with cats my entire life...at least 2-3 at a time....and have never seen a drooling cat.

i do have an Australian cattle dog and she drools to the sent of food but other than that I have not seen an animal drool.

when you say six toes/claws, do you mean it has 'thumbs'? because that's really not all that uncommon. i've seen my fair share of polydactyl (that's what it's called) cats. they're pretty neat. ^_^

yeah that's it.
it's cool to see them catch or pick up something like a ping-pong ball or something.

Are the extra toes (polydactylism) caused by inbreeding?
A. Yes they are, putting aside the possible negative connotations, close relationship is the strategy behind cat breeding programs which concentrate on a particular trait. For example, the Siamese breed originated from a pair of cats brought to America around 1890. They became very fashionable in the 1920's and inbreeding caused ill health, so breeders were forced to use more care in mating selection, which results in the breed as we know it today. The cats here on the grounds who are allowed to reproduce do have the polydactyl gene, however.

My gray tiger cat drools all the time when he's happy - it's not uncommon.

They're called polydactyl cats. Ernest Hemingway bread a bunch of them when he lived in Key West a few decades ago. The descendants of those cats still wonder around down there. Key West is kinda famous for for that.

Anyways...when I pet my Calico she drools on me every once in awhile. Is this something that all Calico's do or is it just isolated to this one cat?

Many cats drool when they're excited, some more than others. It's normal. It means the cat likes you.
