Cakes have turned black! HELP!!!

Two days ago I birthed three jars that were 18 days old. They were 100% colonized, with hyphal knots/pins (I think). Anyway, this was my first birthing, and everything seemed to be okay--the mushroom smell was strong--but the cakes have slowly turned black. Only the tops of the cakes have some whiteness.
The chamber was initially at 84F, 86%rh, but within a day I got it down to 78F, 88%rh. I've been fanning once a day, and there is no smell comming from the chamber. And these are Ecudaors.
Does anyone know why the cakes could have turned black, and is this okay? What should I do?

Dont eat, smell, touch that shit. I took a big wiff from a contamed jar one time, cause I'm mentally handicaped, I saw it was shot but just thought I had to smell it, then it only took like three weeks to get over it. Throw it out, look at it like this, you paid for education, thats all you have so be happy you at least gained that. Next time just be more careful/sterile and you will do ok.

Actually, the reason I asked is 'cause I came down with a cold yesterday, and considering the temp has been in the 80's and 90's, I thought it was unusual. I just thought maybe it was the cause.
I'm not pissed that my first attempt didn't work out, I'm just pissed that I don't know what I did wrong. My theory at this point is that the vector of contamination was the point where I took the jars out of the PC immediately after cooking them instead of letting them cool in the PC overnight.
Oh well. Time to update my grow log/journal so as to never forget the lessons I've learned. Thanks again everyone

sorry to hear that you had bad luck!
I'd say that the cakes weren't fully colonized yet. fully colonized cakes are not prone to contam that easy. next time....wait a week after the cakes look fully colonized.....then birth them.
black pin mold is a common house hold mold.
you might want to clean the hell out of your growing area. and you might want to spray Lysol around next time you have cakes exposed to open air in the room.
better luck next time!

Your humidity is still too low anyway. And since you are just doing cakes, you should have the humidity in the upper 90's and leave it there.

Yeah, I was using perlite and a bubbler, but I'm going to buy a vicks cool mist. From what I've read that's the way to go since I don't have the time and self-discipline to do manual misting and fanning.
Thanks all!
