"The instrument is made up of two identical thermometers, one a wet bulb, and the other a dry bulb. The wet bulb thermometer has it's bulb wrapped in a tight fitting muslin cloth material (wicking) which is soaked in water. When the thermometers are ventilated the wet bulb temperature will be lower than the dry bulb temperature."

Would this be as easy to make as I'm thinking, if one had two same-model thermometers?

I mean, they're not super-expensive, but thermometers are cheaper, and it would keep me from having to wait a few weeks for delivery. My digi hygrometer crapped out ages ago, and my analog isn't much better.

As best I can figure, all you'd have to do is make sure the wet-bulb thermometer was kept at 100% humidity (i.e. in a wrapped, wet cloth).

too easy to be true i suspect.
no doubt an old hand will come along with the cold water soon enough.:smirk:
only seems to be capable of reading upto 92% may be one drawback.

Accuracy would be dependent on how well-demarcated your thermometer is. There are full charts available on the internet. It's just a matter of being able to take a measurement down to the degree.

It's a simple design. In theory, as long as you keep the wet bulb's gauze/cloth saturated, it should be accurate--way more accurate than a hygrometer of similar cost.
