75 watt grow bulb good for casing?

i got one of those 75 watt grow bulbs with one of those shields on it. would that be enough light to use im not sure wat the spectrum is on it but its got a blueish coating over the bulb. myc is taking over the top layer slowly..... thanks for help

BTW, what exactly do you mean by "grow bulbs"? If you're talking HPS, MH, or HID lights, than that is overkill! Incandescent/flourescent bulbs are all that you need. :wink:

75 watts will create a lot of heat. Christmas lights are great (IMHO). Get the blue ones.

Will shooting light through a blue painted light bulb actually be blue spectrum oriented light? I've wondered about this before. I kind of doubt it is higher in the blue spectrum, but I could be wrong.

it wouldn't be higher in the blue spectrum... the light creating it is a white light and the blue colored plastic filters out all the other colors and lets blue through. So essentially you are losing many kinds of light, but supposedly you only need a certain wavelength to trigger mushrooms

You need more like a 15 watt nightlight for a casing...small compact flouros work even better (again a 15 watter). You dont need reflector dishes or anything either..these do not go through photosynthesis and only need light to trigger them to grow and to tell them which direction to grow.
