Touching mycellium, as long as your fingers
(should be gloved) are clean and contamination free will not kill it. The only ways to kill mycelium, are: drying up, contamination and thermal death (upwards of 90F)

From my experiences, once you have fully
colonized media (grain, cakes etc) it
doesn't seem get contaminated as easily.

So break it up as much as you like, it
will spread the mycelium faster.
